yotaruvegeta's Full Review: Shootfighter Tekken - Round 1
Plot Details: This opinion reveals minor details about the movie''s plot.
Shootfighter Tekken (Its literal translation seems to be "Super Exciting High School Story: Tough" or just "Tough") is the story of a father and son who are practitioners in the deadly Nanshin Shadow Style of martial arts.
The father, Oton Miyazawa, is a big bruiser of a man and he has a bloody history with a great professional wrestler named Iron Kiba. By professional wrestler, do not think the American WWE. Instead, you should think shootfighting, more like the Ultimate Fighting Championship or kickboxing.
The son is named Kiichi "Keybo" Miyazawa. He is the main source of all the comic elements of the trilogy, and he gets the most focus even though he shares the spotlight with his Oton, who he usually refers to by his first name instead of as father. Keybo is a lot less disciplined and serious than his father and he has a great lust for fighting.
One fateful day, Keybo and Oton Miyazawa get involved in a fight against two Pro Wrestlers. Through this event, Keybo has a match against one of these wrestlers and Oton fights once again with Iron Kiba in a match to decide the fate of Nanshin Shadow Style, the style that cost Iron Kiba his left eye.
The action is pretty good, even though some of the wrestling holds and the brutal beatings are a bit unbelievable, but in anime you get to stretch the limits of the human body.
What is disappointing is that there isn't much that makes you believe that Nanshin Shadow Style is anything so different from any other martial art or style of wrestling. There is one move that Keybo does that is unique to his style and the training they undergo is intense, but there is little else beside the typical martial arts punches, kicks and holds.
In the DVD, you get few extras. What you get are the trailers for all three Shootfighter Tekken movies, previews of other anime and previews of manga and manhwa as well.
While Shootfighter Tekken does not stand up to classic fight anime, it is an enjoyable 45 minutes of action in each disk.
I recommend it to anyone who has seen most anime and would like to sample a quick series.
