Pros: Beautiful scenery of someplace that's supposed to be Colorado.
Cons: Everything - easily the worst movie of the year.
The Bottom Line: This is not a movie I'd recommend for anyone of any age. It's dull, stupid and boring. Sit home and watch McNeil-Lehrer for more entertainment!
I just came back from seeing Silver City - a movie that seemed to hold promise as election year entertainment. The main premise of the movie is that big business "owns" political candidates. This is established in the first 15 minutes of the movie, after which things become a confusing mish-mash of side stories about illegal aliens, toxic waste, old romances, and other seemingly unrelated things. I was hoping it would all tie together at the end, and it did, but disappointingly so. In the mean time, we get to see an old tired looking Daryl Hannah, a truly bumbling Chris Cooper (I expected more from ya, Chris!), and weak Richard Dreyfus part with little point at all. By the last scene (I won't ruin an otherwise boring movie by giving that part away), I was fully expecting to see a credit by some environmentalist wacko group, as some have called environmental extremists. After about an hour of the movie, I looked at my watch, and decided I could literally take a one-hour nap and still wake up before the end. Deciding that would be rude to my companion, I sat straight up, put my feet on the floor and endured. I have declared Silver City to be the most boring movie I have ever seen. Please don't waste your time - or your money. You'd be better off buying your popcorn and sitting in the lobby than going to this piece of trash.
