Wishbone was shown on PBS in late 1990s and I think some PBS stations may still show it as repeats. The show's main character is a dog named Wishbone. The episodes start with a scene about Wishbone in real life and usually his owner, Joe, and his friends engaging in a good deed. Wishbone then goes off into an imaginary retelling of a classic literature story that is inspired by what is going on in real life. As Wishbone retells the classic literature story there are a few segments that bring him back to the real life situation. At the end of the episodes Wishbone narrates a small segment about the making of the imaginary parts, such as telling how specific stunts were done. Overall the show is an interesting one for kids, however, nowadays the special effect parts do seem quite low tech.

I remember watching Wishbone when I was a kid, so when I saw the DVD I thought it would be a good one for the kids I babysit. While the show is still an interesting way of introducing kids to classic literature, this DVD is a little disappointing in that all it has is one episode of the show and absolutely no special features.

The episode on this DVD is about Wishbone's owner, Joe, and his two friends helping their neighbor plant a tree for Arbor Day. As they dig the hole Wishbone is reminded of the classic story Journey to the Center of the Earth. As they dig they find treasure and try to figure out what its significance is.
