johnhighway's Full Review: Resident Evil: Apocalypse
A deadly virus has been unleashed on the population of Raccoon City. "Resident Evil: Apocalypse" is a terrifying adventure in survival horror. Milla Jovovich returns as Alice, one of only two survivors of the contained biochemical disaster. She has been subjected to biogenetic experimentation by the vast Umbrella Corporation and become genetically altered, with super-human strengths, senses and dexterity.
With Alice in the heart of the ravaged and deadly Raccoon City, these skills, and more, will be needed if anyone is to remain alive. Alice is joined by Jill Valentine (Sienna Guillory), a recently demoted member of Umbrella Corp's elite Special Tactics and Rescue Services (S.T.A.R.S.), Terri Morales (Sandrine Holt), Carlos Oliviera (Oded Fehr), L.J. (Mike Epps), and Nicholai (Zack Ward) who must survive and escape what is quickly becoming a City of the Dead.
To reach their goal, they will need to battle their way through the relentless onslaught of the ravenous undead, as well as Umbrella forces and terrifying bioengineered weapons, the most deadly of which is the colossal, heavily armed assassin, Nemesis (Matthew G. Taylor).
This movie is a definite improvement of the original movie premiere of "Resident Evil", there was a greater amount of 'movement' that kept the feeling that you have to keep moving, that you can't simply sit still (this is something that you'll experience when you play the game, Resident Evil 4, the zombies have gotten smarter). This heighten sense of urgency helps build toward the moments where fighting occurs.
Another improvement has been the fighting scenes, better choreography and better training, Milla Jovovich has proven herself to be quite a presence in the movie industry, enough to come back in the returning character of Alice, a genetically altered being with strength, speed, agility and intellience. There is a definite increase in strong female characters, enter in, Jill Valentine (played by Sienna Guillory); a recently demoted and disgraced member of S.T.A.R.S, Umbrella's elite squad of Special Tactics And Rescue Services.
A must see movie if you're into the Resident Evil games.
