In March 1977 the premiere of Three’s Company was shown on ABC TV. It was a success right from the start. The last episode was shown in September 1984 with 174 episodes total. Twenty years later there are still many fans including me. Three’s Company is my all time favorite television show. I was so excited when my husband bought me Three’s Company Season Three on DVD. I have seen all of these episodes in the past, but I love to watch them over and over.

Cast:

John Ritter was the star of the show as Jack Tripper. He was the “man of the house” who is a fun loving guy with a great personality. He was studying to be a chef and always was full of jokes. He keeps me laughing.

Joyce DeWitt played Janet Wood. She played that role during all of the seasons of Three’s Company. She was a florist. She is cute, spunky, fun, smart and dependable.

Suzanne Somers played the sweet Chrissy Snow. She is witty, but has plenty of “blond moments”. She is sensitive, pretty and fun to be around. She often snorts when she laughs.

Norman Fell was the landlord Stanley Roper. It is a middle aged husband of Helen Roper. He is conservative and not interested in sex.

Audra Lindley was Helen Roper. She is warm, fun, good hearted and loves to laugh. She always has sex on her mind, but too bad her husband is never interested.

Richard Kline played car salesman Larry Dallas. He was Jack’s best friend. He was a guy you just had to love. He got Jack in plenty of troubles, but he was always fun to be around.

Season Three DVD set consists of four discs. There are 22 original episodes included as well as some cool extras. I’ll tell you a bit about the episodes. If you are a fan of Three’s Company you will be sure to remember these funny episodes.

Disc One:

Double Date - Jack fakes being sick and gets into lots of trouble with several of his lady friends.

Good Old Reliable Janet - You won’t believe what wild and crazy thing Janet and Mrs. Roper decide to do.

Here is a funny line from this episode.

Chrissy - “I’m waiting on a phone call from my date.”
Janet - “Who are you going out with?”
Chrissy - “I don’t know - he hasn’t called yet”.

The Love Diary - Mr. Roper comes across something that makes him think Chrissy has the hots for him.

The Fast - Jack says women have no will power. So Janet makes a deal with him. Jack must give up women and Chrissy must give up food. Who will last longer and win the deal?

Helen’s Rendezvous - Jack and Chrissy overhear Mrs. Roper begging another man to see her. Is she cheating on Mr. Roper? During this episode Jack pretends to call a girl for a date. He is holding the thing on the phone as he pretends to romance a lady on the phone while the phone starts ringing. It was very funny.

My Sister’s Keeper - Janet goes hysterical when she thinks Jack is putting the moves on her sister.

Disc Two:

Chrissy and the Guru - This is one of my least favorite episodes. Chrissy gets mixed up with a crook.

Larry’s Bride - Larry is about to get married to a girl who is putting the moves on Jack. Jack reminds her that she is about to be married to which she replies “I’m getting married, not buried”. Does Larry marry her or does the love fizzle out?

Chrissy’s New Boss - Jack and Janet think Chrissy’s new boss is out to use her for sex. It turns out that her boss is actually a woman. It’s hilarious the mess Jack makes of things before he finds out.

The Crush - A 13 year old girl falls for Jack. What tricks does she pull to get rid of his roommates and girlfriend?

The Kleptomaniac - Jack and Janet think Chrissy is a thief. How do they find out if she is or not?

The Party’s Over - Mr. Roper plays a trick to ruin Jack, Janet and Chrissy’s party. Mrs. Roper is furious and leaves him. Does he get her back?

Disc Three:

Eleanor’s Return - Jack thinks the girls want old roommate Eleanor to move back in. See how the girls shocked Jack and a naked Larry too!

The Older Woman - Jack meets Barbara who is a bit older than him. Chrissy and Janet think his new love interest is her mother. A simple mixup is hilarious when the girls try to break them up.

Stanley’s Hotline - What a mess happens when Mr. Roper overhears a conversation making him think Chrissy is pregnant.

The Catered Affair - Jack is hired to cater a party at Chrissy’s office. It turns into a nightmare and Chrissy is fired. How does she get her job back?

The Best Laid Plans - A mouse is in the apartment and Janet is terrified. Jack uses it to his advantage.

The Harder They Fall - Janet is supposed to have the apartment alone for a date. Jack breaks his leg and messes up Janet’s plans.

Disc Four:

The Bake Off - There is a statewide baking competition that turns into a pie throwing battle. This is one of the funniest episodes ever.

An Anniversary Surprise - Jack, Janet and Chrissy think Mr. Roper is fooling around on Mrs. Roper. The other woman turns out to be his real estate agent. He has a big surprise for Mrs. Roper.

Jack Moves Out - Jack moves out to cook for Larry’s boss and his wife. The wife can’t keep her hands off of Jack. Does he reciprocate her advances?

Triangle Troubles - Jack tries to hide from his date that he has two girls for roommates. His date tries to hide that she has two guys for roommates. Do they each find out the truth?

Extras:

Second Pilot Episode - Susan Lanier plays the part of Chrissy Snow in this episode. Jack moves in with Janet and Chrissy. He meets the Ropers. Chrissy’s mom comes into town unexpectedly. Janet gets Jack out of the apartment so she doesn’t find out, but Mr. Roper spills the beans about Jack. Chrissy’s mom doesn’t mind him living their since she thinks he is gay, which isn’t true at all. I am so glad that Suzanne got the part of Chrissy instead of Susan because I think Suzanne was perfect for the role of Chrissy.

Remembering John Ritter:

Joyce DeWitt tells a little bit about John and reflects on his untimely passing. Ann Wedgeworth, who played Lana Shields, talks about what a great person and actor he was. Jenilee Harrison, who played Cindy Snow, talks about what a wonderful influence he was on her life. Don Knotts, who played Ralph Furley, talks about how sad John’s death was. He said that John left him with some wonderful memories onscreen and off. George Sunga was a producer and he talked about John’s talent. Kim Wieskopf was a writer and he shared how John never acted like he was the star. George Burditt was also a producer and he shared that he is still in a state of shock. He said that John was too young and became overcome with emotion. Richard Kline, who played Larry Dallas, said that it was hard for him to even talk about John without becoming emotional.

There was a commentary of the episode “The Bake Off” with Chris Mann. Chris is the author of Come and Knock on Our Door. He shares behind the scenes stuff about that episode.

Original Promos:

There are three different ads that were ran to advertise Three’s Company. All three of them were ads that John Ritter had done.

Richard Kline Interview:

Richard was doing a guest spot on the first season and was a big hit with watchers. By the third season he was a regular part of the cast. Joyce DeWitt introduces Richard after telling a bit of background about working with him on the show. Richard shares how people still come up to him this day talking to him about the show. He tells a bit about his acting background and what it was like doing Three’s Company. I was shocked when I saw Richard because he has gray hair now. He tells how much fun those years were and how he never imagined what a huge success the show would become.

Dave Powers Interview:

Joyce DeWitt also introduces director Dave Powers. His talks for about fifteen minutes sharing memories from the show. Many different clips are shown as he talks, which is the same way it was done in the Richard Kline Interview.

Bloopers:

These are the things the actors messed up on and had to do re-takes on. Watching these can be very funny. I do thing the first set of bloopers that is on the Season Two DVD are better though. There are approximately ten minutes of these.

Final Thoughts:

If you enjoy watching old episodes of Three’s Company you really should buy the Season Three DVD. I have the first three seasons on DVD and will buy every season as it comes out. I love to be able to watch an episode anytime that I want. It’s especially good when there is nothing on television to watch and you just want something funny to watch. I am a huge fan of John Ritter and I never get tired of watching these episodes over and over.

I really enjoyed all of the extras as well. I think they did a great job with adding extra stuff for us Three’s Company fans. The only thing I would have really liked was to have an interview with Suzanne Somers included. She was such a big part of the show that I really would have loved to hear her share some of her memories of working with John.
