drdevience's Full Review: Christmas with the Kranks
Hey, I'm no bah humbug.. well ok I can be at times, but even given my lack of religious beliefs I still enjoy the holidays. To me it's about family and decorations and just having fun. I do, however, know folks who take it all a but too serious.. and that brings me to Christmas with the Kranks.
You see, Jamie Lee Curtis and Tim Allen decide hey, the kid is grown and gone so let's just skip all the hoopla this year and take a nice cruise to somewhere warm. That's what I'm talkin about... unfortunately, they live in one of those touchy-feely kinda communities and all their friends, neighbors, and co-workers take it personally. Hilarity ensues... or is suppose to. heh.
Ok I'll admit that I'm one of those folks who just never really took to Jamie Lee Curtis. You might even say I avoid her movies usually. However, I have to give her kudos this time. Broad got into a bikini in this with full on flab happening. In other words, she portrayed every-woman USA and didn't play prima dona about it. Standing Ovation to Ms Curtis. Heck, I'll even say that I liked her acting this time. I like it when actors have fun with their roles and she did.
Tim Allen is one of my favorites. Yeah I know he does silly movies mostly.. but I like 'em. Bite me. He's cute, ornery, playful, and enjoys life. That gives a lot to his character in this one.
Other names that add to the goofy fun of this one are Dan Aykroyd as a demanding kinda block leader, M. Emmet Walsh as a crotchety old neighbor with the funniest cat, and Cheech Marin & Jake Busey as a pair of goofy cops.
Rated PG for brief language and suggestive content. Yeah well.. you know. Let the kids watch it.
I'm not going to tell you this is the Christmas movie of the year. All I'm saying is it's 98 minutes of brainless silly grin time. Three stars here and a hearty 'why the hell not.'
