I love the previous movies and I have both of them on DVD. I had not seen either movie in the theatre and saw Blade two on a Satellite channel. At that point I knew I needed to purchase both dvds to add to my collection. I was an instant fan because of the second movie (not the first.) So I had to see this movie in the theatres on the opening weekend. Although I am glad I went, I am a little disappointed in the third installment.
The Premise.
Supposedly this movie takes place in the future. How far I am not sure and the movie does not tell you. But once again there is an enemy that Blade must deal with and hopefully kill. Blade eventually meets people along the way to help him on his quest.
Blade is a half human/ half vampire that has dedicated his life to killing vampires. He is well trained and armed to the teeth. With the support of whistler he is able to greatly disrupt the vampire empire.
The Story SPOILER ALERT. Do not read if you are going to see the movie.
Basically Blade starts out killing vampires and some humans. He gets caught on tape killing a human so the FBI busts down his door and his hide out gets blown up with Whistler inside. Blade is captured. He is then about to be transported by some undercover vampires to the vampire layer to be killed (why they did not do it at the police station is beyond me.) Then he is rescued by Whistlers daughter and they go to her hideout. Btw, they escaped from a police station and killed a lot of cops, why were they not pursued?
Now with Blades new friends they pursued, in detective style, after the new vampire called Dracula. The first vampire that just happened to be hibernating in Iraq. After discovering the vampires final solution (human blood farms.) They catch up with Dracula, and after a long and awesome battle, Blade kills Dracula and released a deadly virus in the air killing all vampires in the vicinity.
End of Spoiler
Acting.
The acting was sub par. What do you expect from an actor that is asked to show no emotion, which he does very well. So Wesleys acting job is not the greatest because of the limitations of the script. The other actors in the story were not significant but they did an ok job.
I did not develop an emotional attachment to any character in the story nor was I captured up in the traits of the character. I did not buy in to the value of any character in the story (except whistler and that was because of the other movies, not this one.)
The Camera Work.
This was absolutely marvelous. I loved the beauty of the city and the color the photographer let in. The story was told more by the photos than by the talking or the acting. Definitely one of the best jobs I have seen in a movie in a while. It is too bad a poor script overshadows it.
There was also a lot of time lapse photography. This also did a great job of telling the story and giving the audience a sense of time and place. It was also captivating to look at. You saw reality in a different light. I was very impressed.
Plot Development.
You could have taken the second half of Spiderman 1 and pasted it over the script because it would have looked exactly the same. The plot was uncreative and dull. There was nothing new to it and failed to build upon the Blade franchise. This was the most disappointing thing about the whole movie.
Character Development.
There was no development. The new characters introduced themselves within the first half-hour of the movie. After that there was no real development of the characters and nothing new to learn from these new characters. I understand the focus was on Blade but they also failed to build his character.
The Script.
The script was a failure in my opinion. It added nothing new and it did not tell the story well. It was as if the script was written in outline form and the camera told the story. Either that or they took the Spiderman script and used that instead. Either way it was a failure. This movie was carried by the star, the action, the special effects, and the photography.
The script was also filled with so many flaws and lacked realism. Why was the FBI on their tail then they stopped looking for Blade? How come the police did not pursue Blade and company? How can the human body survive so much punishment yet get right up and start another fistfight? I understand some lack of realism in movies this was just pathetic.
Special Effects.
The special effects were perfect. They were not over the top and only added to the story. The choices in what to use in this department was very wise.
The vampire exploded beautifully just like in the second movie, it just seemed a little more realistic this time around. For a second I really believed the new weapons were real. The way the weapons were incorporated into the movie really captivated me. There was also a part with a bunch of live corpses that just made me feel sick to my stomach. But it looked very real, too real.
The villain was also well done. It also was not over the top but still menacing. I would not want to see him in a dark alley any time soon.
Costume.
The costumes were well done. Nothing cried out to me saying ,I do not belong here, except for the heroins costume. Her outfits were sexier instead of practical, but I did not mind too much.
All of the clothing the extras wore seemed very natural and fit right in to the environment. I did not see anything that caught my attention or distracted me from the movie.
The costumes for the vampires were appropriate and very cool. Each outfit complimented the vampires. It added to their character, especially since the script did not.
Make-up.
The makeup was well done. If felt that the wounds were real and the tattoos were meant to be on the character. Nothing in the makeup department detracted from the story and only added to the depth of the character. At times the makeup cause me to wince in sympathy pain for some of our heroes. It looked that real.
The tattoos added a depth of character to many of the actors. That and jewelry were appropriately placed to tell a side story of each individual.

Summary:
Just another typical action flick. The camera work is very cool and captivating. The acting is average for an action flick. And the writing is pathetic. But how many of us see an action flick for the writing anyways.
