Starting out as an essay written by a young girl to Princeton University, Spanglish is a movie about the influence of a mother in a daughter’s life. While this is meant to be the main theme of the movie, it is easily lost in much confusion. This movie seems to go from being about how this mother has been such a great influence in her daughter’s life to being about language barriers.

It’s always difficult to write a review about a movie that has left you so confused. I tried watching this movie beginning to end twice without interruptions and still walked away from it in complete confusion. It’s like watching any other dysfunctional family. Sometimes it can be hard to watch. Sometimes it’s hard to understand. But unless you are on the inside, you’re not going to fully understand.

I am generally a huge Adam Sandler fan, but I was so disappointed in not only the movie itself, but the casting as well. Honestly, who could really see Adam Sandler in any kind of a character married to a Tea Leoni character? Especially when Sandler has had such leading ladies as Kate Beckinsale and Drew Barrymore!

I really would not recommend this movie to anyone who does not desire to waste the 2 hours of their life. I would strongly caution everyone to notice too that this film only made about 55 million WORLD WIDE! This should show where this movie really stands!
