Plot Details: This opinion reveals major details about the movie's plot.
This G movie was released in 2005 and is produced by Mattel. It is a full-length movie, 75 minutes long. It follows the same animation of other Barbie movies or an animated cartoon. Barbie looks like a human in animation. I thought that there was an improvement in graphics compared to previous Barbie movies. There is a lot of music throughout the movie which really adds to the movie.
Barbies name in this movie is Elina. Elina is a flower fairy who does not have wings but wishes that she did. She lives in Magic Meadow and wakes up to find that her flower home is sick and her fairy friends cant fly anymore. Bibbel is Barbies pet. He looks like a blue furball with pink hair and pink dots on his body. He has a little set of wings. Bibble is with Elina throughout the movie.
The fairies are all loyal to the Enchantress, ruler of Fairytopia, and evil Laverna wants her power. Laverna creates a potion that weakens the fairies until they lose their ability to fly. Laverna will wait patiently until the fairies are weak and there will be nothing that the Enchantress can do for them. Laverna will then save the day with her magic potion to reverse the effects and all of the fairies will worship her instead of the enchantress.
Elina notices that the fairies are losing their ability to fly and so takes a journey to find Azura, a fairy guardian, to see if she can help. Azura notices the rainbow in Elinas eyes and gives her the necklace for safe keeping because she knows that Laverna is coming for her.
Elina wakes up and finds out that Azura is missing and suspects that Laverna has captured her. Elina takes off to see her when she is approached by a huge butterfly named Hue. Bibble and Elina flies off on his back to the Wiltering Hole until he comes down with the flying sickness and loses his ability to fly.
Laverna had already captured 6 ferries and capturing Elina made the 7th one. Her plan was to suck the magic out of their necklaces until she realized that Elina didnt have her necklace on. One of the guards noted that the fairy without wings was wearing it. Laverna was worried because a fairy without wings wont be affected by the formula and could spoil her plan so she sent out all of her helpers to capture Elina.
Elina continues by foot after Hugh loses his ability to fly. Elina finally finds the fairy that use to work with Laverna who may have a plan to foil the plan. The fairies figured out what the weakness was. They had to make it to the union point and only Elina was strong enough to make it so insisted that she went alone.
Elina finally confronts Laverna. Laverna promises her wings which are everything that she always wanted if she gives the necklace back to Azura. Elina turns down the wings and throws the necklace at the union point and breaks the spells.
Elina tells the Enchantress that shes not a hero; she just did what needed to be done. The fairy says, You may not need a gift, but you still deserve one. She puts the butterfly necklace on and the fairy flies off. Elinas butterfly necklace lights up and she gets her wings. Elina flies with her friends.
After the movie the special features can be viewed which include Boogie with Bibble Game, Pixie Hide-and-Seed game, and Fair Friends. Once you complete the matching game your reward is your own pair of wings.
My daughter loves everything that has to do with Barbie so of course loved this movie just because it said Barbie on the DVD. This kept both my 5-year-old and my 2-year-old daughters attention. They sat alert and watching the movie and didnt play with their toys while it was on like they usually do. There was some laughter throughout the movie. Im not sure if all children will get the point of the movie, our kids rarely stop to think about it.
I thought that there was a lot of nasty talk in this movie. I thought the bad characters were full of sarcasm and a nasty disposition. Its not a movie that I want the kids to watch over and over.
One thing that I was pleased with is that there wasnt any focus on boys or appearance in this movie. Of course Elina was beautiful but her personality was played out as a strong female that was dedicated to completing her task and being considerate to what was best for others before her.
This is what my 5-year-old said the movie was about: "There is a bad lady who wanted to get the necklace so the whole world would be a bad one and the girl saved the day."
The kids liked this movie but it doesnt have long replay value. We rented this movie; it is not one that we will be adding to our personal collection.
