Summary
One night, Emily (Dakota Fanning) saw her father, David (Robert De Niro) find her mother who had killed herself in the bathroom. She always played with her favorite doll until that time but after her mother died, she stopped playing with her doll because she met a new friend named “Charley”.
When Emily and her father moved into their new house, she met Charley. They were unfamiliar with the neighborhood, so they did not know who Charley was or where he came from. David thought Charley was just Emily’s imaginary friend. However, Charley killed some people, and kept hiding from David who was desperate to find out who Charley was. Because David had never met Charley, David felt that Charley was avoiding him. He finally found out who Charley was and….
First of all, I HATE SCARY MOVIES! I watched this movie because my roommates and I decided to stay up all night on Friday the 13th watching scary movies. It was the second movie we watched, and it was already passed 12 a.m. I was tired so I had planed on falling asleep during the movie, but it made my heart beat faster than ever.
My roommates and I were sitting in different chairs, and on the floor. The last part, when David realized who Charley was, we were all frightened, and sat close to each other during the intense part. After the show was over, I was afraid to go into my room. This show affected me that much.
We were surprised that Dakota Fanning was such a good actress. Her big eyes gave us terrified feelings even when she did not speak. There was a scene when Emily was in the hospital and looking outside of the window. She did not blink and it gave us an idea that she was freaked out because of her mother’s death. I guess Emily had known what happened to her mother. Dakota portrayed this character perfectly.
The role of Emily’s father, David, was played by Robert De Niro. David seemed to be a good husband, and good father. His face was gentle. He had a kind smile and really cared about Emily. However, when Emily got scared because of Charley, David’s face became upset at Emily, and his personality seemed to change. When Charley surfaced, you then realize its David’s other personality who is called Charley.
One of my roommates said “this movie was 20 times better than first one we watched.” It was a good movie for Friday the 13th. I think movies that involve killing people are scarier than movies involving ghosts. Killing people is more realistic, and more likely to happen.
This is still a good movie to watch even if you do not like scary movies because it had great actors and a good story line behind it. It was a movie worth watching.
