johnhighway's Full Review: Miss Congeniality 2: Armed and Fabulous
A Brief Synopsis:
It's been some time since Gracie Hart (Sandra Bullock) left the beauty pageant circuit and she returned to undercover work for the FBI. It was during an undercover bank heist bust that her new found notoriety placed her team in danger. She found herself unable to perform her duties and to add salt to the wound, her boyfriend and fellow FBI agent decided that they needed a break in the relationship. With all this, she is re-assigned to help promote the FBI with new profile; to give the agency a needed makeover.
Several months later, after another makeover, she's on talk shows promoting the agency and her new book which detailed her life and life within the agency. However, while on her book-signing tour, she finds out that Miss United States and her close pageant friend, Cheryl (Heather Burns), is kidnapped along with emcee, Stan Fields (William Shatner).
As the new spokesperson for the FBI, she's given the assignment to head up the PR in Las Vegas, to give the public a sense that the FBI is hard on the case. It's while in Las Vegas that Gracie and her bodyguard, Sam Fuller (Regina King), a hard-nose, tough-exterior, recently transferred from Chicago FBI agent, soon uncovered clues regarding the kidnapping case and they take upon themselves to solving this case.
My Take on the Movie:
To start off, because this movie has Sandra Bullock, the review starts off with plus-one in the rating -- okay that's out of the way.
I loved this movie and I find it even better than the first, which isn't always that common with sequels (e.g. Robocop/Robocop 2 & 3, Speed/Speed 2, etc). One of the elements I thought help bring the humor to the movie was her little-disgusting snorting-noise. This was all done in the right moments of the movie, making it actually funny to hear.
Regina King's performance as Sam Fuller (she's basically another "Gracie Hart") was spectacular and when they (Gracie and Sam) go at it after each other, the moment was hilarious. I mean, having one Gracie Hart was bad enough for the agency, now you have two??
I personally hadn't find a moment when the story got slow or dull. This is a movie I believe is worth watching; if you haven't seen the first movie, you won't have to, there's really nothing you'll have to remember from the first movie that will help your enjoyment of this movie.
The Rating:
While I entirely think the movie actually merits a 4 out of 5, there are people who don't find Sandra Bullock as someone that should be doing comedy, though I thought she was funny in Two Weeks Notice. Same can be said about those who don't find Regina King all that amusing either.
