Plot Details: This opinion reveals minor details about the movie's plot.
I had the wonderful opportunity to view this on the big screen the night it came out! I've since seen it on DVD and I believe Cable as well. This is a movie that you just want to keep watching, over and over. And each time you watch it, you'll see something you missed before, or make a new connection in the twisty plot line that will make you go, "Oh!". I've seen this at least 6 times already and I'll see it many more times as I bought the DVD.
I didn't have the background of being familiar with Frank Miller before I went to see this movie. I studiously chose NOT to seek him out so as to not color my thoughts about the movie. After watching this, I bought the graphic novels (at Amazon.com) so I could learn more.
The genre is Science-Fiction/Fantasy and the rating is a well deserved "R". It is a very graphic movie and the content is not something I recommend for the younger generations up to 17 or so. They would love it, but it is my opinion that this is too graphic and horror based for what they should see and obviously the rating industry agrees.
This gem is directed by: Rodriguez, Robert & Miller, Frank. Frank Miller is the original artist of the graphic novels that this movie is based on. True to form of the original novels, the film is in black and white with splashes of color here and there. This has an effect of really stressing one point in the visuals of the movie and in Sin City, it was done with complete finesse! Bravo! There is sheer genius behind this movie, everyone who contributed must have given their 110% because their final work was stunning and impressive!
The story line (hopefully without spoiling too much) tells a tale with more twists and turns than I could keep up with at times! There are multiple storylines going on concurrently and it does have the affect of being confusing, but by the end of the movie, I was able to answer my questions raised during it. Mickey Rourke and Bruce Willis really draw you in with their bad boy attitudes. Caught in a bad space, framed and forced to assume the guilt willingly for horrific acts by another, Bruce Willis bears the burden of his character like a true Hero. Protecting someone tender and young, he bears the truth of a hideous creation in "humanity" ... a monster in the guise of the son of someone wealthy and powerful. Someone willing to protect his son and wealthy enough to do it at all costs. Jessica Alba plays the sultry object of Willis' protection, growing up with horror in her mind, memories of ugliness and the beauty of humans can sacrifice in the name of love.
In Sin City, the cops don't rule the streets, the Ladies do. And these ladies pack cynicism and protectiveness to manic levels! Tired of being subjugated, they've learned to defend themselves and each other. As long as the cops leave alive, Sin City stays protected. But not all cops play by the rules. Find out how far the ladies will go to protect their turf.
Witness betrayal and fear, love and innocence and so much more in Sin City! This is a ride worth taking way more than once! Put on your seatbelts for this ride, it'll make you think twice about life!
