Plot Details: This opinion reveals minor details about the movie''s plot.
I was so disappointed with this film, as there's so much positive talk about it (for reasons I obviously don't understand). This movie is about racism, and the message is that it's "bad", that everybody can be racist (even group who themselves are persecuted by society), and that when you pre-judge someone because of their race, you will often find that you were very wrong about them. (OK, we GET it!!)
The instances of people being racist were so prevalent in the film. The scenes were very cliche, very forced, very unoriginal. There's a white woman who treats her latina maid like crap (and then guess who ends up being there for her when she really needs someone?). There's a black man with a chip on his shoulder, who thinks anytime someone acts a certain way towards him, it's because he's black. I could go on and on.
There were some scenes that were well done in the film, but overall I did not care for the unintelligent way in which the film tries to what.... tell us racism is bad? Start a dialogue on racism? This is old news.
I also was not impressed with Dillon's performance, and certainly didn't find it Oscar-nomination worthy.
