When The Wedding Date came on last night, Lars groaned and said please tell me you have seen this already. I had not. More groaning ensued, but being the owner of the *bleep* in this relationship, I won and we watched it. It is gooood being female...

Here we have Debra Messing from TVs wonderful Will & Grace playing a chick who has to go to her sister's wedding in England. The problem is that her scurilous ex-fiancee is to be the Best Man in the wedding, and Kat (Messing's character) hasn't got a date.

Kat's Mom: What's wrong?
Kat Ellis: Nothing that a bottle of Jack and a straight razor won't fix.

Dermot Mulroney (About Schmidt, Must Love Dogs) is a sexy-as-hell date-for-hire stud-muffin who Kat pays $6k plus a plane ticket to escort her to this wedding in the hopes of making the ex jealous.

Nick Mercer: I'd rather fight with you than make love with anyone else.

Can you see where this will end up? Of course you can. So what, I say. Sometimes predictable is a good thing. Sometimes we need for life (and movies) to turn out how we want them to. This is one of those times.

The chemistry between Messing and Mulroney was wonderful. They are both highly intelligent folks with a myriad of issues to work through, you know, kinda like real people... heh. I loved the sarcastic edge displayed by both characters. They were evenly matched. When one was angry or upset, you could see the apparently sincere reaction in the other. Great acting, that.

Nick Mercer: The hardest thing is loving someone and then having the courage to let them love you back.

British-born actress Sarah Parish plays the uncontrollably fun cousin of Kate, TJ. She isn't a major player in the film, but her scenes had us both in stitches. She brought a needed element of dare-devil mirth and adventurousness to the film. You can be sure I'll be looking for more from Parish. Hopefully this 2005 role will get her off of TV and into more big screen projects. She's goooood.

TJ: Can you believe Kat gets to shag this guy? No, really, you should send God a bottle of wine or a quiche or something.

Another thing that won both of us over is the filming location. London is wonderfully represented here, and Chilworth Manor is just awesome. Plans to travel there this spring were hatched while watching this, much to my delight.

This is only Director Clare Kilner's 4 movie, and certainly her best. I've never even hear of Janice Beard 45 wpm, Daphne & Apollo, or How to Deal. I may try to find the last one though. I mean, there are no earth shattering special effects here, no ground-breaking anything, really, yet it works and it's fun and the casting was marvelous. Kilner took the fairly safe route, and it worked with this one.

Wedding Date is Rated PG-13 for sexual content including dialogue in the US. No rating for Sweden, the UK says 12, ad Finland says 11. The Mad Doc sez: Any age, if they're interested. Many of the jokes would go over their heads though so kids would likely be bored under 13-ish. Hell, the jokes may go over quite a few adults heads for that matter, it is chock full of British humor...

I'm going with 4 stars for this one. There is nothing here that hasn't really been done before, but it was a great deal of fun... hell, even Lars liked it, and he normally hates chick flicks.
