The confession of a secret identity movie buff
First of all, I have a confession to make. I LOVE movies in which characters have secret identities (e.g. The Incredibles, Superman, Spiderman). I can't explain it, but if you're like me, then you know what I'm talking about. If you loath the entire secret identity thing, then perhaps you should just skip this movie.
With that said...
This movie is essentially about this seemingly normal couple, John Smith (Brad Pitt) and Jane Smith (Angelina Jolie), who are not happy with their marriage. As they try to identify the problem between them, they discovered who each other really is -- they are top-notch assassins working for different sides -- and they are now supposed to kill each other. The story goes from there.
Storyline
The story is simple. Allow me to break it down for you:
* John and Jane are not happy with marriage.
* John discovered who Jane really is, and Jane discovered who John really is. Ooops.
* John and Jane try to kill each other but then fall in love all over again.
* Now everybody wants John and Jane dead.
* John and Jane fight bad guys together and won. Yay, John and Jane.
Selling point
The storyline's not very original of course, but hey, who's here for that? It's an action movie, and it's got all the action -- fighting, guns, grenades, explosions, knives. It's a romantic comedy, and it's got that part covered too -- I mean Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie, for crying out loud, are two sexy human being. Whew!! The cast was a great choice, in my opinion. Pitt and Jolie work well on screen and their aura -- Pitt, innocent and cool; Jolie, mysterious and sexy -- works great for their characters. Their cute quibbles (though sometimes rather fierce and downright dangerous) only add to the charm.
Cast & Crew
Director Doug Liman (director of The Bourne Identity series) did a good job with all the action scenes, though I'm not so sure about the way he handled the love scenes. They all seem rather... action-packed.
Brad Pitt .... John Smith
Angelina Jolie .... Jane Smith
Vince Vaughn .... Eddie (John's good friend)
The focus is definitely on Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie. Other people are just... the toppings.
Cons
Again, the storyline was easily predictable at times. Some action scenes are overly dramatic which I dislike very much.
Who should watch this?
* Action movie fan
* Romantic comedy fan
* Secret identity fan
And if you're a combination of any of the above, then you should not miss this one!
My rating On a scale from 1 to 10, 10 being the best.
* Story - 7
* Directing - 8
* Cast - 9
