Plot Details: This opinion reveals everything about the movie's plot.
Hercule has gotten himself in hot water this time. He bribed 18 into throwing the martial arts tournament so that he can reap the endorsement rewards from the win. He has not paid her, and she has come to his home to collect.
If you aren't aware what Dragonball Z is or who Hercule or 18 are, then here is a short synopsis. DBZ origionated from a comic. It then became an animated series with Dragonball. Dragonball was written about Goku who was a little boy with super strength, a pure heart, and a thirst for knowledge in martial arts. Dragonball Z is about Goku again, but as an adult with a family and a past. It appears he is an alien known as a Saiyan who landed on Earth to destroy and concur it. However, his head was struck as a child and he became the exact opposite of evil.
Confussed? I thought so.
This DBZ Movie has nothing to do with Goku. In fact he is only shown in the last scene. The only characters that are in the movie are Goten (Goku's son), Trunks, Krillen, Android 18, their daughter, and Hercule (Mr. Satan). The rest of the characters are not seen in the series and Broly is only seen in two previous movies.
In order to follow this movie, you have to have seen either of the previous Broly movies.
Back to the story ... 18 is about to beat Hercule to a pulp if he does not pay her the prize money from the tournament she threw for him. She, her daughter, Krillen, Trunks, and Gotne have gone to the home of Hercule to collect. Hercule is hemming and hawing his way out of it when 18 confronts him. While this is going on, in walks a gentleman who throws down a challenge to him. It appears that Hercule has an enemy who is bent on seeing him exposed as the fraud he is. Hercule accepts the challenge only after he is told a "pants wetting" story from his past will be leaked (no pun intended) to the press.
18 not wanting to miss out on her payday insists she go along. Trunks and Goten who are listening in on the whole story hop in the trunk of the jet car and off they go.
In one of the funnier moments, Krillen is told by 18 to watch the kid. Oh how whipped Krillen has become. He follows 18's orders like a little puppy. It is quite funny. I often get a big kick out of the marital stuff that comes from this cartoon.
They arrive at Lord Jaguar's castle and Hercule tries to intimidate from the get go. He puts on his sideshow act and he soon realizes that he is out matched. Always a quick thinker he tells 18, who he claims is his supposed desciple, to judge (fight) if these opponents are worthy. More money is promised to her and she quickly cleans the floor with the "Bio-Warriors". Trunks and Goten quickly jump into the fighting and Lord Jaguar seems to have been disappointed by his plans.
He then orders the release of his greatest "Bio-Warrior". Goten and Trunks earlier in the movie see "Broly" in a water chamber and interrogate the witch doctor from the previous movie that gave Lord Jaguar the DNA to create Broly again. Broly is released and when exposed to air, changes from his human/Siayan shape into a hideous green fighting machine. 18, Trunks, and Goten fight Broly, but nothing seems to harm him. Hercule cowers and hides like usual and Broly starts to beat the good guys. Just as things look over for the heroes, Krillin shows up and saves them.
As the fight continues, a purple ooze is released from containers in the lab/fighting area and it destroys anything it touches. After almost getting killed, the heroes get Broly in the purple ooze and it kills him. Or does it? Broly makes a comeback, but is put down for good by the heroes and the day is saved.
This is the third Broly movie and the premise gets old pretty quick. There are some good funny moments with Hercule and Krillian that make this movie worth the purchase. The fighting is a little bland though and the ending is a little lame, but since when has it not been in a DBZ movie? I liked the fact the story uses minor characters like the last movie, but Broly needed to wound someone pretty severely to convince me that he is a feared opponent. All the characters walked away at the end with only a few bumps and bruises.
Overall, it is a movie for your collection, but it is not in my top five for best DBZ movies.
