yotaruvegeta's Full Review: Elfen Lied - Vol. 3: The Third Vector
Plot Details: This opinion reveals minor details about the movie''s plot.
WARNING: I do not do a total rehash of what happened in previous volumes. That is not the way I write reviews. What I do is hope that whoever is reading this has already experienced the previous volume(s) or has read my previous reviews. If you don't like it, that's unfortunate for you. Look elsewhere for a "better" review. Everyone else, please enjoy!
We continue from volume 2 with the Nana meeting her fellow diclinus and target, Lucy. Nana attacks Lucy because she knows of how destructive and violent Lucy can be, but Kohta and Yuku still believe her to be Nyu, a girl who cannot even take care of herself. Back at the diclonius lab, Director Kakuzawa, father of the recently deceased Professor Kakuzawa, learns of his death from the professors assistant. To say the least, Director Kakuzawa is not the most friendly of people.
Soon, the story goes into flashback and we see exactly what sort of childhood Lucy had and how she is connected to Kohta and Yuka. In episode 2, Lucys childhood continues to be retold in flashback. She meets a young Kohta, and her interactions with him tie into why Lucy has made the decisions she has about the human race. The violence in these flashbacks are unrepentant and Young Lucy is the scariest child Ive seen in anime.
The flashback continues in episode 3, but this flashback focuses more on the mysterious organization Spearheaded by Director Kakuzawa and eventually run by Chief Kurama. If you want to know how Kurama came to work at the diclonius facility, and what happened to his wife and daughter, look no further. We also learn the method a diclonius can use to reproduce.
We learn that these people who captured Lucy as a child had done horrible tests on Lucy, but Lucy has killed so many people in her short life, it is hard to feel too bad for such a monster. Lucy makes an awesome villain because she has seen enough of the evils of humanity to justify her position on the value of human life; but her violence towards so many innocent people is unforgivable. Add all the love shes been given as her second personality, Nyu, and she is as soulless as, If not more than, her former captors.
I was confused while watching this episode, because when a certain event happens, it makes me think that the girl in the flashbacks and the grown up Lucy is the same person. Thats probably due to not seeing what happens directly after this event, though. In the present time, Lucy tries once again to kill Nana, finishing the short work she made of her in the first volume.
I love this volume even more than the previous volumes. It is very disturbing, but if you want horror, youve got it! Dont come crying to me when the blood flies.
