SAW II 2005
SAW II is set in the Last House on The Left, wherever that is. Jigsaw the serial killer is back with a vengeance. This serial killer snatches people who are wasting their lives and gives them a whole new outlook on life if they can survive his games. This game includes several people who are captured and placed in a house of horrors. There is a way out if you can manage to figure out the Jigsaws twisted way and clues. However if you decide to do your thing or misunderstand the clues, you can expect to die. The Jigsaw also adds to the twisted scheme by intentionally bringing the cops and a detective into the picture. Detective Mathews quickly realizes that things are not right and deadly. Then he finds out his son is one of the victims in the Last House on The Left. No one knows where the house is and the detective only has two hours to get to his son. There is a nerve agent in the house and all of the victims will die in two hours if they are not found.
Jigsaw: Those who do not appreciate life do not deserve life.
Conclusion
SAW II is a lot like its predecessor, SAW. I liked SAW II more. The special effects and the story were both better. I also liked the cast and acting more. The first film was made with a low budget and it showed. The story in this one was much better and kept the viewer guessing. Theres no way to keep up with he turns and twists in this one. I enjoy a thriller that I cant figure out. This one will definitely keep you guessing. I believe a good suspenseful thriller mixed with horror are some of the best films. Some of these are Silence of The Lamb, Se7en and now SAW II. I really enjoyed the acting of Donnie Wahlberg (Band of Brothers) in this one. Tobin Bell as the serial killer was outstanding as well.
The cinematography and special effects were very good. The shots are very dark, dreary and spooky feeling. The special effects in more than a few scenes will have you cringing! One scene involving needles will have most viewers closing an eye or two. The story itself is very well thought out. Its like a cross of Se7en and Texas Chainsaw Massacre. This is a good watch for fans of horror as well as thrillers. The directing was very good considering Darren Bousman is a new director. I suspect we will see some excellent horror films from this director down the road. I also hope to see Donnie Wahlberg in more films, the guy is a very good actor. If youre looking for a smart twisted bloody thriller then SAW II is what youre looking for. I give SAW II four of five stars.
