Perhaps 'glamourizing' is a tad strong, but I feel that Spielberg viewed Louis and his Papa in a far too favourable light. Just because they take care of and provide for their extended family doesn't mean that the ends justify the means. Like you, I think they're just high-paid terrorists themselves.

Thanks for reading and commenting!

Very well-written review.

I can do without the glamourizing of such people.

I didn't find the French family glamourized so much as a kind of over-exaggeration of the European close-knit family bubbling over with generations (especially tons of grandkids and cousins) and dogs. Whether such idyll is glamour I'm not sure, but I still personally came away feeling Papa and Junior were high paid thugs and nihilists.

Anyway, very thoughtful and compact but rich essay-
