Plot Details: This opinion reveals minor details about the movie's plot.
Some people call him the Excellence of Execution. Some call him The Best There Is, The Best There Was and The Best There Will Ever Be. Yes, I am talking about Bret The Hitman Hart-the man who is my favorite wrestler among many other wrestlers(Hulk Hogan, Jake The Snake, Ultimate Warrior etc.) But what really made Bret Hart my all time favorite wrestler? My reason is the same for millions of fans who were stunned and captivated by Bret's slick moves, attitude and most importantly his love for the fans.
This DVD which is made by Bret Hart himself after at least 5 years since he stepped out of the ring. This documentary is a treat for all fans and possibly an enjoyable romp for newcomers. If you have never seen Bret Hart wrestle in a match, then you haven't seen nothing. This DVD has 18 full-length matches hand-picked by Bret himself. These matches are only a taste of what Bret Hart left behind in the World Wrestling Federation. However, this is the following list of the matches:
Hart Foundation v.s. British Bulldogs (1985)
Hart Foundation v.s. Killer Bees (1986)
Bret Hart v.s. Ricky Steamboat (1986)
Bret Hart v.s. Ted Dibiase (1989)
Hart Foundation v.s. Rockers (1990)
Hart Foundation v.s. Nasty Boys (1991)
Bret Hart v.s. Mr. Perfect (1991)
Bret Hart v.s. British Bulldog (1992)
Bret Hart v.s. Bam Bam Bigelow (1993)
Bret Hart v.s. Mr. Perfect (1993)
Bret Hart v.s. Owen Hart (1994)
Bret Hart v.s. Hakushi (1995)
Bret Hart v.s. Diesel (1995)
Bret Hart v.s. British Bulldog (1995)
Bret Hart v.s. Stone Cold Steve Austin (1997)
Bret Hart v.s. Undertaker (1997)
Bret Hart v.s. Chris Benoit (1999)
Bret always put 100% in his matches. He came for the fans; he pleased the fans, period. Bret Hart always kept a free-minded head in the ring because he fought some tough wrestlers(Stone Cold, Undertaker) that required smarts, strength and fast moves. Bret also used his strength and muscle ability to the fullest. When you thought Bret Hart was a gonner after multiple beatings, Bret would suddenly come back and take on his revenge. This sometimes lead to a winning and some did not. Every match is unique, creative, heart-stopping and exciting. Why? Because Bret always excited the fans by his technical moves, his street smarts, his fast ability and most importantly his finisher--The Sharpshooter. Truly, this DVD is worth the $27.99 just for the matches. The matches are at least 20 minutes. The longest match is about 35 minutes. So thats $27 worth right there!
However, this DVD is not only about the matches. This DVD has a main core to it; Bret Hart's story. If you have kept up with the wrestling back in the early and late 90s, you should know that Bret Hart was screwed out of a Wrestling contract and was fired by Vince McMahon. Bret Hart was made into a bad guy and wasn't able to put his story out to the fans whom he loved dearly and knew that is what kept him alive. No, that story wasn't sweet at all. Finally, in this documentary, Bret finally lets his story out of the box. If you have heard the story over and over, still this story is still worth hearing again. It's a story about revenge, hatred and betrayal.
Besides Bret getting his side of the story out, Bret also brings this documentary to many other topics including the Hart Family feud, the death of his brother Owen Hart, problems that happened in WCW and even back in the early days when Bret was a no body trying to make it. This DVD is packed with story-telling of Bret's entire rise to fame starting with the Early Years, Stampede Wrestling, Coming to WWE, Making of Hart Foundation, Becoming the Intercontinental Champion multiple times, making his dream of becoming a WWE Heavyweight Champion into reality, the standoff of staying in Canada or U.S.A. to fulfill his dream, living it up at the end of his wrestling career and many more! There are at least five more topics which Bret Hart tells about. (I'm not saying a word since it's up to you to find out what 5 topics are there left to discuss).
The whole documentary and the 18 matches are only the beginning of this DVD. The extras include 20 minutes of new Bret Hart interviews which are hand-crafted into different topics including Bret talking about the origin of the name The Dungeon, being away from family on Halloween, how well the Hart Foundation got along, learning the Sharpshooter and Owen Hart crank-calling Stu Hart. Bret even talks about the family tree which consists of a lot of Harts, Bret talks about learning how to wrestle and master the technique of wrestling, Bret talks about his famous pink sunglasses which he gives out to a lucky fan at every match and finally Bret talks about being a villain is better than being a good guy. That is not all either-Bret even has composed two tribute videos of wrestlers who have died over the past years whom he may have not wrestled with or has. Fallen wrestlers include Andre The Giant, Boss Man, Mr. Perfect, Rick Rude, Hawk, British Bulldog and more. It's a very touching video and it shows clips of the wrestlers. Bret even breaks down and cries. Bret also have made one tribute video to Dean Hart. Overall, the documentary is at least two hours long with 7 hours of extras(18 matches, 20 minutes of new interviews and two tribute videos). All together, it is 9 hours of Bret Hart and it all on this 3-DVD collector's edition.
For $27.99(depends on where you get it), it's actually quite cheap for what you get. I mean, you have two hours of Bret Hart speaking out about his rise and falls to fame; 7 hours of extras that include 18 exciting and stylish matches, 20 minutes of interviews and two tribute videos. So if you like to spend your money wise AND have a friend who likes wrestling and want to get them something for this Christmas, please pick this DVD up. It's worth the money and the smile on that person's face.
