Plot Details: This opinion reveals minor details about the movie''s plot.
Just what really happened that legendary night at Grandma's house?
The idea behind this movie is quite novel. Take a well known fairytale - Little Red Riding Hood - and write an hour and twenty minute movie around it. Sure, others have expanded fairy tales - even comic books - into full length movies. But this one does it a bit different. The movie compares the stories of that day as told by Red (as in ... Riding Hood), granny, the wolf, and the lumberjack (ok, that part is new for the movie). By putting all the stories together, we learn...nothing. Well, it's at that point that the movie takes a turn not covered in the famous tale.
Overall, I'd say this movie was fairly good. The script had many catchy phrases and clever plays on words. Many of which will be over kids heads. There are some funny parts - many from the clever word play of the dialog. But the vast portions of the movie just aren't clever enough to be funny. Not bad. Just not funny. Sort of like walking through nice country side with an occasional pretty flower.
The animation was good. Not Pixar quality. More like the original Shrek. The voices were good. And like I said, much of it is clever.
One good thing, the movie is kid friendly. I had my 8 year old son and 9 year old daughter and never felt uncomfortable. My hats off to the director for resisting the sexual and adult eneuendos found in other animated flicks like this. But the movie would probably sail right over the little heads of any kid under about 5 or 6. However, my daughter and I both agreed that this one was not worth buying when it came out.
My recommendation: Save your money and rent it when it comes out, which will likely be very soon.
