Plot Details: This opinion reveals major details about the movie''s plot.
Well, Jack Black has done it again. A true master of characters, Black embodies Brother Ignacio, a Mexican friar at an orphanage and monastery, who moonlights as Nacho Libre, an amateur wrestler in the hit comedy Nacho Libre. Of course, wrestling is frowned upon by the members of his religion, so he must keep his identity as Nacho el Luchador a secret.
As a friar in the monestary, it is Ignacios responsibility to cook for the orphans, nuns and other friars.
Unfortunately, the monastery doesnt have a lot of money to spend on groceries, so Ignacio is left to making and serving horrible food. One night, while in town picking up leftovers from a restaurant for the orphans, Nacho is attacked by Esqueleto, a vagrant living on the streets of the town.
Nacho recognizes wrestling potential in this poor man, and teams up with Esqueleto (Héctor Jiménez) as the newest wrestling tag team. The two compete in a local Lucha Libre wrestling tournament so that Nacho can win the $200 prize to buy better groceries for the orphans. They don't win the first match, but earn money anyway. This lights a fire in Nacho, who continues to wrestle not for the glory, but for the ability to help the children.
When a new nun, Sister Encarnacion (Ana de la Reguera), arrives at the monastery to be a new teacher for the orphans, Nacho tries to find out her feelings toward wrestling, as well as her feelings for him. He does his best to prove that wrestling isn't a sin, as long as it is done for the right reasons. Nacho even enters the Battle Royale tournament so that he can earn enough money to purchase a new bus for the orphanage.
Of course, Jack Black is absolutely hilarious. Newcomers Ana de la Reguera and Héctor Jiménez really hold their own next to this comedy giant. Even the orphans have their funny moments! Viewers will not be disappointed when it comes to the cast and chemistry, nor will they be disappointed in the story. Nacho Libre has the right balance of hilarity and touching moments, making it a must-see movie for everyone.
The Nacho Libre DVD was released on October 24,2006 and is a must-have for any Jack Black or wrestling fan. If you weren't able to see this flick in the theatre, make sure to take it home for movie night.
