Please be informed, I have never read the comics for Ghost Rider and have had no clue what to expect when renting this movie. I rented the Blu Ray at Blockbuster and had some friends over (none of whom had seen the movie) and we were in for a real "treat". Now I was expecting this to be just another superhero movie with no storyline, minimal character buildup, and great effects.
Storyline: Without giving away the movie, the storyline I'm sure is just going by the comics books, showing how Ghost Rider becomes who he is. I didn't find the storyline gripping however, and was glad to leave the characters behind when the movie was over. I did get the feeling of "just another Hollywood movie trying to make a few more bucks". Anyway, if you're looking for great drama, look elsewhere.
Special Effects: The effects were great when comparing to older movies, but given the high budget movies of today where great effects are standard, I did not see anything that blew me away with this movie. It's exactly what you'd expect from the title, nothing more. Some of the transitions actually looked fairly cheesy to me, for instance Going from Ghost Rider to Nicholas Cage and back.
Acting:Nicholas Cage is a good actor and I had no problems with his acting in the movie. I didnt see the cheesy actors who clearly didn't know what they were doing as I've seen in some recent movies. I felt everyone was who they were supposed to be.

Now, given the above, you'd think the movie isn't that bad, just another movie but nothing special. However, I found the movie very disturbing. I'm talking about the whole "feel" to the movie. Now, if you're familiar with the Ghost Rider Comics and love the story, this might be a great movie for you, however, if you know nothing about the story like me, and are just thinking the trailers looked decent, be warned, the movie may not be worth your time. There are characters The Devil, and the Devil's Son, as well as some other characters I believe were demons. The whole atmosphere around the movie was dark and demonic. I don't care to watch 2 hours of demons fighting and strange disturbing creatures that I guess were supposed to be souls. I'm not really sure who this movie is suitable for. Now I have seen many movies with gore/blood/etc, but not with the same dark, evil feel as this movie, it just leaves you feeling not so good by the end.
