Plot Details: This opinion reveals minor details about the movie's plot.
I bought Ring Around the Rosie yesterday and watched it today. I think it felt like the longest 88 minutes of my life. I bought this movie because the box, and description made it seem so good.
From the box: "In this electrifying thriller, your deepest fears become reality. Following her grandmother's last wish, Karen (Gina Phillips) reluctantly travels to a remote, run down mansion to sell the family estate where she grew up. Karen soon realizes that she's not alont at the property. Living in the shanty at the horse stables is Pierce (Tom Sizemore), an odd and mysterous caretaker. With every passing night as she rummages though the dusty house, Karen's found memories of her childhood turns in to nightmares.
Haunted, Karen feels relief when her sister arrives, but things only sprial out of control when Pierce becomes increasing more violent. Suddenly both women find themselves trapped in a house that preys on their greatest fears. Karen has no choice but to face the horrible memory she thought she put behind her and walk the line between bad memories and deadly reality.
According to the box, Ring Around the Rosie seems like it would be "electrifying", but to describe it in one word would be boring. It's like the whole movie I expected something scary to happen. It basically seems like the whole movie Gina Phillips as Karen is running around the house screaming, crying, and panting, and seeing things. There were a lot of holes in this story, and even watching the ending to me didn't make sense. There was no real horror, action, or scary seens in this movie for me. I don't want to give too much away because this movie has one of those 'twist' endings that has already been done about once or twice.
The story is basically about Karen. Her grandmother recently died. She goes to clean and pack up her late grandmother's house. She meets the home's caretaker, and they talk. He seems like such a nice man, until her sister comes to visit. Then out of the blue he gets violent. Her and her sister are scared to death of this man. But then the twist comes so I don't want to ruin it, but even after seeing this ending I still feel confused.
I found this movie to be really confusing. Somethings you just cannot tell are a dream, or if they are real. This movie has a great idea and could have been so good if it was pieced together a lot better, and didn't have so many plot holes. This film really had potential to be something better.
I really don't think the title, ring around the rosie, really fit this film. Even though they do sing it once or twice. To me kids in a horror film shoud be creepy. I really wouldn't even call Ring Around the Rosie a horror film. There was no horror, no killings/murders (not in the present anyway, maybe a death in the past). This film was not intresting. It took me five hours to watch, due to the fact I kept getting bored and pausing it. I don't do that very much with films.
I wouldn't let children watch this film. Even though there is no nudity, there are points in the film where they were sheer tops. There are some no nudity scenes (i.e kissing, closeness) so there's another reason where kids shouldn't watch it.
Acting
With the whole cast of about five actors in the film I don't like the acting too much. Ms. Gina Phillips screamed and cried (very annoying) about the whole movie. There wasn't very many actors which added to this films "boringness". Gina phillips looked really thin, and really sick in this movie.
The only thing I actually liked about this film were some of the landscaping. The pretty stables, houses, color skys etc.
The bottom line is with Ring Around the Rosie I found this to be a very very boring film where I keep watching it waiting for something scary to happen, and nothing happens. I don't recommend this to anyone. There are too many plot holes. It is VERY confusing. Don't buy this, RENT it first, if you like it, then buy it.... but rent it first..
