Basic Plot Summary:
Set within two years after the first film and between two countries. Karen's sister, Audrey, been affected by the supernatural curse, and trying to find the origin of it in order to find a way to free herself. But the curse continues into America with the families who are living in Chicago, a photojournalist from Hong Kong, and three schoolgirls from Tokyo's International High School.
My Take:
Iam an avid fan of the original Grudge (Japanese version), and then the Americanized version with Sarah Michelle Gellar. In regards to the American version of the first Grudge, I had chills and fingers over eyes during parts when I (alone in a large theater, with only three other folks in it), first saw it. So when I saw the advertising for the sequel, Grudge 2, I was excited and prepared to be scared again.
I will admit, I was a bit disappointed. Miyuki (the woman who is the curse isn't in as much as I was hoping, and her scenes are too quick. Though her great errrr sound is still there. Gellar isn't in it for a long period of time, and I was really hoping my Buffy would get over it and conquer Grudge butt.
The story in Japan is not very tight. There were too many loose ends in the theater version, so I was pleased the DVD version had the deleted scenes to more expand on the storyline.
The story in Chicago was a bit more pleasing, but would have liked to have seen the Grudge more involved with what had happened to the families.
The ending...will, I think I like the theater version better than the DVD alternative one, but then again, I am not too sure. I'm still up in the air about it.
Do I think there might be a 3rd version of the Grudge.
Yep.
It left an empty ending to expand into America, and I hope they do so as they did finally explain that it wasn't the house that held the Grudge but......
(I'm not telling, that would ruin it for you)
Do not recommend for under 15.
Violence
Some language
Gore factor: low
Chilling factor: low to med.
Scream factor: none
But watch it anyway to get the complete story of Miyuki.
