kjscrafts's Full Review: Blue's Clues - Blue's Jobs
Plot Details: This opinion reveals minor details about the movie's plot.
This DVD has 4 episodes of Blue's Clues that are related to jobs. Blue's Clues is a show aimed at preschoolers with the main character being Blue an animated dog, who leaves clues for a human (Steve in older episodes and Joe in newer episodes) to figure out the answer to some question. As Steve or Joe looks for Blue's Clues (blue paw prints) they encounter other residents of their house and usually use problems solving to help their friends out. The friends are various anthropomorphic household items and toys from Salt and Pepper shakers to Soap to Shovel and Pail. The shows all teach problem solving as the host encourages viewers to interact and help solve problems and ultimately the answer to what the clues mean. The episodes also subtly include some sign language used, although it is only really noticed by those who already know sign language. Other preschool concepts such as counting are taught within some episodes.
This DVD contains 2 episodes with Steve and 2 episodes with Joe, so it is a good one for kids that like both hosts or for a group of kids that have different preferences in who their favorite Blue's Clues host is. On the other end of the spectrum it can also be a bad DVD, as I know some kids really only like the original Steve or the newer Joe and thus only like half of the episodes on the DVD. It really comes down to the tastes of individual viewers, but putting that aside these episodes are the usual good quality of Blue's Clues and are nicely interconnected with the theme of jobs.
The first episode is called Occupations. In this episode Steve is pretending to be an investigative reporter and he is looking for Blue's Clues to find out what Blue wants to pretend to be. As he looks for clues he encounters different household friends pretending to have a variety of occupations including veterinarian and airplane pilot.
The second episode is called Blue Goes to the Doctor. This episode features Joe. In this episode Blue is going to the doctor for a check up and before they go Joe looks for Blue's Clues to find out what Blue wants to do after her check up. This episode includes some of the household items and toys pretending to be doctors and shows different doctor items and their uses. This episode is a great episode for kids scared of the doctor's, as it can help put them at ease.
The third episode is called Mechanics and features Steve. In this episode Steve looks for clues to find out what Blue needs fixed. In the episode Steve fixes several things acting as a mechanic asking for problem solving help from viewers.
The fourth episode is called Playing Store. This episode has Joe in it. In this episode everyone in the house is playing store. Joe goes around to the different kinds of stores that the residents are running. At the different stores Joe uses problem solving related to size of items to get the right size items Joe is buying. As he shops he is looking for Blue's Clues to find out what Blue wants to buy at the store.
Overall this is a good compilation of Blue's Clues episodes showing different occupations, however it does not have any special features on the DVD.
