Both my husband and I have some arthritis in our hands. My right thumb bothers me while his right index finger gives him pain. Several months ago we started using a cream called Nature's Plus MSM Glucosamine Joint Cream, but when we ran out I replaced it with a tube of Natrol MSM with Glucosamine Creme.
This tube was purchased at Vitacost, and retailed for around $7.00 on sale, the suggested retail price is listed as $15.99. The tube is purple and white and contains 4 ounces. The front of the tube pictures an "x-ray" of a joint.
The product claims to have a natural eucalyptus fragrance but it smells more minty to me. The scent is mild and not at all offensive to either of us. It definitely does not smell like Ben-Gay.
Water, stearyl alcohol, cetearyl alcohol, ceteareth-20, MSM (methylsulfonylmethane), capric triglyceride, glucosamine, glycerine, cyclomethicone, cetyl alcohol, vitamin E (tocopheryl acetate), matricaria extract (chamomilla recutita), comfrey extract (symphytum officinale), dimethicone, steareth-20, steareth-2, lecithin, aloe vera leaf juice gel (aloe barbadensis), arnica flower extract (arnica montana), ginger root extract (zingiber officinale), kukui seed oil (aleurites moluccana), almond oil (prunus dulcis), cayenne resin (capsicum annuum), sodium metabisulfate, xanthan gum, triethanolamine, methylparaben, propylparaben, fragrance.
I really like this product a lot more than a similar cream from Nature's Plus. Nature's Plus is a thinner cream and my husband always squeezed out too much and had to rub his hand forever to get it absorbed into his skin. He really wasted it!
While both products have been effective in relieving our joint pain, I prefer the Natrol brand. The consistency is very thick so we squeeze out less and use less on each application. It also has a very nice texture and is NOT one bit greasy. It absorbs quickly and doesn't leave my thumb or my fingers feeling oily. I don't feel like I need to wipe my hands on a tissue afterward.
The directions say to massage the cream into muscles or joints as needed, but we use this morning and night. I am a firm believer that MSM helps with joint pain, and I know it helps with my allergies as it is a natural anti-inflammatory. I was disappointed to see that the tube of Natrol MSM With Glucosamine Cream does not say how much MSM or glucosamine it contains.
The scent is hardly noticeable after the cream has been applied, so it won't interfere with my perfume. A little of this goes a lony way, and this tube has lasted a lot longer than the other brand, I'd say two to three months with each of us using it.
When we started using the Nature's Plus cream it took us a few weeks to notice a difference. Once we did, relief was longer lasting. Because we had already been using a MSM Glucosamine cream, there wasn't much adjustment time when switching to the Natrol brand. We do, however, notice it if we skip a few days, our joints do pay for it.
I have to disclose that along with this cream we both take 2000 mg of MSM a day as well, and the combination of the two has really made a big difference for us, our pain levels are much more tolerable. The pain in my husbands finger was so bad he almost went through the roof if he accidentally bumped it, but now he is feeling much better.
If you suffer from painful joints, I would suggest giving a MSM supplement and cream a try. It is an inexpensive treatment that just might work for you as it did for us.
