| Cleavenger's Full Review: Quartet gbc ShredMaster® SC60 (Strip-Cut) Shr... |
My in-laws bought this GBC Shredmaster 60Sfor us this past Christmas after we mentioned needing one to use at the house.
This is a straight-cut shredder (cuts in only one direction) and does not come with a waste collection basket. It will adjust to fit trashcans the width of 13-16 inches wide. Also the can needs to be at least 7 inches deep to allow the motor to fit in the top of the trashcan. The unit has an adjustable slide on the side to accommodate the different width baskets. We had an extra can around the house so we didn't have to go buy a new one.
We've used this personal shredder at home a few times every week. It has done well over the past year and I can only remember one paper jam after all these months. The unit shreds really quickly and the noise level isn't all that bad….it's only running for a second, so who cares?
Size: This unit will shred paper up to 9 inches wide, and cuts it into ¼ inch strips. (If you have wider paper, just fold it in half before putting it through.) The power cord is nice and long in measuring in at 6 feet long.
Features:The direction switch has a forward and backward option to help unjam paper if needed. The only other feature is the ability to set it to the "On" position and it will automatically start shredding when paper is inserted into the slot. This is nice because you don't have to turn the unit on and off every time you want to use it.
Paper Load: The booklet that came with the shredder says it can shred up to 8-9 sheets of paper at one time. I've noticed that it really bogs down once you get to 7-8 sheets of regular paper. You also don't have to remove staples before shredding. I do just because it isn't worth it to me to end up ruining this gift.
At first I didn't believe there was room enough to be able to put trash in the trashcan while the shredder was attached. There is a cutout section that allows you to still throw regular trash in without removing the unit. It has given us enough room to still utilize the can with the shredder in place.
The company includes a 1 year limited warranty with a 5-year warranty on the blades. I haven't had to take advantage of this because the shredder has worked fine and the blades have remained sharp.
I would recommend this shredder to anyone that is interested in keeping their personal information private. I use mine to shred old bills and those junk credit card offers that companies send you, along with anything else that has our name and address on it. I just like to be as careful as I can with my personal information these days.
This shredder lists at $89, but I don't know how much my in-laws paid for it.
