| waldo53's Full Review: Quartet gbc ShredMaster® SC80 (Strip-Cut) Shr... |
I have owned my GBC 80S for quite some time. So I felt it was time to write a review. As an avid eBay seller I tend to shred almost everything for a source of packing material. I have really given this machine a workout over the 9 months or so that I have owned it.
It's a fairly simple machine without many bells and whistles. The shredding unit is an individual piece that sits atop the 7 Gallon plastic collection bin. It provides a strip-cut that is 1/4 inches across. Can shred up to 10 pages at a time (I have done more) including staples. Shreds at the rate of 15 feet of paper a minute. Does comes with a 1 year limited warranty and 5 years on the cutters.
The cutters are of high quality. They are just as sharp as the day I brought it home. During the last 9 months I have shredded everything from credit card statements to phone books to unopened junk mail. Even credit cards! I've tried CDs but it doesn't work well. But then this model never claimed to be able to shred a CD.
Occasionally I do jam it up but only when I'm putting more paper through then what is recommended. That is where the handy dandy reverse button comes into to play. You just back it up and try again! Also have a Auto forward which senses when paper is in the shredder and a full time forward. The full time forward is nice if are shredding a lot of paper in one sitting.
The 80s also has a automatic shut-off for when it gets hot. This is really a nice feature because it shuts the machine down when your in danger of burning up the motor. My last shredder did not have this feature and I fried the motor real good.
It gray in color and that really is a nice color for a shredder. It keeps it from looking dirty. We have a white shredder at work and it always looks dirty and yellow! Also has a nice long cord. Last shredder I owned had a cord that was about 2 feet long.
This has really been a nice machine for the price. $99 from Quill with free shipping! If your looking for a no frills durable shredder this is a great buy!
