Note: As often as possible I do seek out items having a Breast Cancer Awareness focus.

While I personally have not been afflicted with this particular medical blight; many of my students, as well as myself, have lost dear friends and beloved family members to the scourge. I lost a cherished family member, my cousin, who was my age and a life long friend.  She succumbed to the awful disease a decade+ ago and I continue to miss her very dearly.

Many if not most of the items I buy are seen through the lens of how the product6 might be used in my Osage County First Grade classroom.  Osage County First Grade Little Mathematicians agree; these magnets are ideal for Little Learners to use for working out addition and subtraction problems.

Purchase of 2 sets of the 15 to a pack pink and white magnets has provided 20 for use as Math manipulatives and 10 for using on our chalk – magnet boards.

The magnets measuring 1.25 inch diameter are generated in China using poly materials, offered as pink with white Breast Cancer Awareness ribbons, and white with pink ribbons disks useful for mathematical equations through 20 as are required by the national core math standards for First Grade students. 

Little Learners move a diversity of math manipulatives including magnetic pieces and metal cookie trays purchased at the local dollar store, to use in work areas for math tasking during early days of mathematical operations work, and later in the term as need dictates.

Many Little Learners quickly see, understand and have inculcated both theory and actual math operation understand, others continue to need the manipulatives in hand in order to set up a problem 7 – 3 = x, by placing 7 magnets on the tray and removing 3 the answer becomes apparent. 

Addition is worked in much the same manner 7 + 3 becomes an exercise in laying out 7 magnets, adding 3 and then noting the sum produced. 

In addition to classroom usage; these magnets are dandy for holding pages on office, and other, magnetic boards or other metal surfaces including metal file cabinet sides, metal stick up strips, cubbies and the like.  Each magnet can be expected to hold 1 to 5 sheets at once.

Hanging children’s projects on the kitchen refrigerator door is accomplished quickly, and keeps Breast Cancer awareness before the family at the same time.   hang up

In an effort to show support and make a difference in the lives of cancer sufferers; Officemate is one of many companies supporting breast cancer research.  A portion of sales of pink and white products is donated to Evelyn Lauder’s Breast Cancer Research Foundation promoting Early Detection, Cure and Prevention, which states 90.6%  of all monies received are used for research grants, ongoing research and efforts to eradicate the scourge while 3.7 are used for administration and 5.7 are used for fundraising efforts .
 
Note:  While I have not personally been plagued with the scourge of Breast or any other Cancer others in my family have.

I like that a portion of Portion of the proceeds garnered from sales of these O I C pink and white magnets  will go to the Breast Cancer Research Foundation.  As often as possible I think pink, I wear pink, I buy pink, I give away pink and support the corporations, entities and organizations creating products designed to heighten awareness of the public to the misery that is Breast Cancer.
