My Experience:
When shopping the other day, I got really hungry. It was going to be awhile before dinner, but I knew I needed something to tide me over.
I would usually pick up a candy bar, or some pretzels, but this day, I wanted something with more protein, and more flavor.
While waiting in line at the checkout, I saw the normal, beef jerky, and so forth, which didn't catch my eye or appeal to me, but then I saw something different!
What did I see
Oh Boy Oberto BBQ Pork Jerky 12oz:
The following was on the Front of the Package:
"All Natural, Minimally Processed, No Artificial Ingredients, No Preservatives added.", it said!
Premium Pork was also, 'as if stamped on the front of the package'.
Hmmm, I thought, 'All Natural', 'No preservatives Added', "That's cool, I thought", and I turned the package over, to find the ingredients;
The Following was taken from the back of the package:
"Simply, A Great Tasting Jerky", it said
Ingredients: Pork, Brown Sugar, Water, Salt, Tomato Paste, Spices and Natural Flavorings, Pineapple Juice Concentrate, Vinegar, Natural Smoke Flavor.
"Wow, these are things I put in my own BBQ sauce, when I make it from scratch!", I thought...
Continuing reading from the back of the package:
Then it said, "It's simple: Our All Natural Jerky is made with premium strips of lean meat and seasoned to perfection. Oberto Takes great pride in using only the best ingredients. No added artificial or preservatives means you can feel good about choosing Oberto."

My Thoughts from what I read on the Package:
"Oh Boy Oberto BBQ Pork Jerky 12oz has 10g of Protein, which I wanted, It does have more sodium than I would wish for, but, it is a snack, and what fun is a snack if it is totally good for you." I rationalized!
I came to my decision:
So, then I decided to buy it and try it!
With my first Observance:
The package is red on the top, and there is a clear window that lets you see the actual Oh Boy! Oberto BBQ Pork Jerky, inside. It looked appetizing, for as much as Jerky can be appetizing.
There is a Place on the top of the package, to tear off, revealing a self zip-lock, for you to close to keep the freshness in.
With my first Sniff:
As I opened the package, I sniffed and the smell was sweet, and warm, spicy warm, but not 'overly spicy', just nice. I thought I smelled the pineapple juice, because of the sweet pungent smell.
The smell, drew me in, and made me want to eat some. It also made me feel like I could smell it cooking. It was a very pleasant feeling/smell for me.
With my first Look:
Inside the package of Oh Boy Oberto BBQ Pork Jerky 12 oz was a variety of sized strips, some were longer and some were shorter and fat, and some were pieces, just as if it had been served from the dish! Very Homemade looking, and smelling, in my opinion.
With my First Taste:
Next I took out a small fat piece of Oh Boy Oberto BBQ Pork Jerky 12 oz, and I was surprised when I took a bite.
I had expected since it was "Jerky", it would be tough and hard to bite off a piece, and hard to chew, I was wrong.
Instead, I was able to bite off a piece, I had to pull a bit to bite it off, but not as I had expected, instead it just kind of shredded as it pulled apart, kind of like 'pulled pork', if you have ever had that.
When I put it in my mouth, it was a warm, chewy, buy not too chewy, hard, just a nice chewy. It was satesfying to eat, and sink my teeth into.
There was flavor in every chew.
The flavor was sweet, hearty, warm spicy, I could faintly taste the tomato, and the vinegar, and the Natural smoke flavor was appealing, as well. The whole piece was full of flavor,
I didn't feel the need to get to a water fountain or other drink, due to the spiciness, it was a comfortable spiciness.
I felt I could taste the brown sugar and the pineapple juice for the sweetness, that also made it moist, but not juicy.
I am a 'texture person' So, here are my thoughts about the Texture:
The texture was tender, but chewy, very pleasing and comforting, as in 'comfort food'.
It wasn't sticky, or juicy, but it wasn't dry, either. As I continued to chew it up and swallow it, I felt good, and wanted more.
After eating a few strips, I felt contented, more than if I had eaten a candy bar, pretzel or cheeseburger, for that matter. I was not feeling weak and shaky any more, instead I was feeling content, and able to continue with the rest of my day, easily and wait for dinner time.
A packaging surprise:
I was surprised to see in the bad, a white packet, 1 inch and 1/2 by 1 inch and 1/4 in size.
It was a sealed plastic white packet with blue lettering, that said; 'DO NOT EAT' Oxygen Absorber Oz-Zero with a picture of a persons face with their mouth open putting something in their mouth, with a big Line through the picture, meaning DO NOT EAT!
I don't recall ever seeing one of these packets in any other food package, like that. I have seen similar packets in pockets of clothing that you buy or purses or something like that. But this is the first time I have ever seen one in a food package.
For all I know, they could be in all 'Jerky' packages, but since this is the first time I ever bought one, I couldn't tell you.
My Overall Summary:
Because I had never had 'jerky of any kind' before, I can't really compare Oh Boy! Oberto BBQ Pork Jerky with other Jerky.
I can, however, tell you a few differences, that I noticed when my Grand daughter was eating some Beef Jerky.
First thing I noticed, was that the smell of her Jerky, didn't smell good at all to me. It smelled really spicy, as though they were trying to cover some other flavor up.
When she would try and take a bite out of her 'Jerky', she would have to pull and yank to take a bite.
As I said before, Oh Boy! Oberto BBQ Pork Jerky was pleasant to smell, easy to chew, and great to Taste.
As a snack to have between meals, it worked wonders for me. As far as being good for you, there are probably snacks that are better for you, but, on the other hand, there are snacks that are far worse for you.
I personally would not be ashamed to set Oh Boy! Oberto BBQ Pork Jerky out as an appetiser with crackers and cheese. I would probably cut it up into cracker size pieces.
I enjoyed the taste and smell, and texture enough to have it for a light lunch, or even a light dinner, with some cottage cheese, or a salad, and some fruit, on a hot summer day or evening.
At 90 calories for a serving and 25 calories from fat, I could easily incorporate this into an eating plan if I were trying to loose weight.
I would give Oh Boy Oberto BBQ Pork Jerky, 5 stars, and happily recommend it to my friends here at Epinions.
I say, 'Enjoy!
I hope I have helped you to form a decision about Oh Boy Oberto BBQ Pork Jerky 12 oz.
