| susiewho's Full Review: Cayman Islands |
I belong to the Divi Tiara at Cayman Brac. We bought a time-share there on the spur of the moment about 6 years ago and go as often as we can. The time share can sleep four, has wrap around views of the ocean, full kitchen facilities, 6 man hot tub and looks like a Tahitian movie set. It also has hotel facilities. They're all very clean, nice, many with ocean views. The food is basically buffet style with a large indoor/outdoor areas you can eat in while facing the ocean. The food is fabulous.
Cayman Brac is a mid sized island, part of a group of three. Grand Cayman, the largest is where you fly into. You usually have several hours layover to explore this Miami like island. The smallest is Little Cayman, its even quieter than C.B. with equally phenomenal diving. Day trips are available from Cayman Brac for snorkeling and diving.
We've made friends with some wonderful people there, we see many of the same people there on our regular visits and will often plan the trip so that we all can be there the same time. Its extremely quiet, the highlight of the week is usually crab racing-its VERY, VERY quiet there. It is child friendly but you see very few children.
I adore the diving, we've seen Manta Rays, schools of Tarpon, Spotted Eagle Rays by the dozen, Dolphin, exquisite Nutibranchs and even a free swimming Remora that tried to attach itself to our tanks. We never fail to enjoy ourselves. Its ideal for underwater photos.
Something else to think about is the snorkeling. You can snorkel right off the beach in a couple of feet of water. There are what look like mini villages of juvenile fish that are incredible to watch. You'll see the barracuda that lives by the dock, octopus, and eagle rays. Having gone back so many times I know exactly where the octopus live. Snorkeling is also part of the all day dives to Little Cayman. My girlfriend was pregnant and did air reconaissance for us, snorkeling above us and pointing out the sharks, rays, turtles etc. with a series of hand signals we divised.
The dive staff there is well trained and friendly, not something you find at every operation they are.
Something very unusual about Cayman Brac is the safety and honesty. You can leave expensive dive equipment out by the dock to dry and everything is right where you left it the next morning. I've seen a pair of shoes someone left behind still sitting in the same place year after year.
Other than diving ,snorkeling, eating and relaxing there isn't much to do but that is always plenty for us.
