Roatan Rocks - Bungalow 7 Does Not (Reply to this comment)
by hutton1
We just returned from Roatan (June '05) and absolutely loved it! We stayed in Bungalow 7, however, and hated it. The rooms were nice enough, but the owner, Pamela, was rude and made our time at the hotel tense and uncomfortable. Luckily, Roatan's all about the outdoors! We are definitely going back soon, but will avoid Bungalow 7.

Roatan Update (Reply to this comment)
by janisp
I was there in Jan. 04 and we loved it! The lobster dinners were only $14 at restaurants in West End (the $30 dinner must have been at a resort?) and the lobster tails were GIANT! We found the food very good and pretty inexpensive, considering it's the Caribbean. Dinners at most places were $8-14, lunches $4-8. Lots of the places to stay now have A/C available for an extra fee. We stayed at 3 different places and all were very clean and decent. We did not feel
unsafe at night, however we were in a group of 5 so that's probably safer than a single or couple.
We can't wait to go back!

Some good R & R (Reply to this comment)

Sounds like paradise to me regardless of the minor setbacks such as canned food... though I wouldn't be complaining if I got food... period.
Excellent review. I'll have to look into this place now.

Re: Is there a dolphin research center in Roatan? (Reply to this comment)
by Suzi
Anthony's Key Resort has a dolphin habitat program open to the public, as well as "their" version of a research center. I have been to it, and personally prefer to dive with dolphins in the wild. But it's great for kids or for non divers. The interractve program is very expensive, but very popular with cruise passengers. Another similar program is available in the Bahamas through UNEXSO in Freeport. Dolphin habitat programs have sprung up all over the Caribbean. You'll find them on Cozumel, at Xcaret near Cancun, several places in the Bahamas and in Florida.
I have been scuba diving with dolphins in the wild, and I must tell you they are scary creatures. Incredibly agressive, but also breathtaking. I paid to go on a dolphin dive through UNEXSO, which I also found very enjoyable. But something about dolphins in pens bother me.
Anthony's Key was one of the first to market a dolphin experience. They do a great job, and make tons of money doing it. The passengers I spoke to who went all said it was worth every penny.
