I guess it's time I write another tip for all you fishermen and fisherwomen.
Trolling for trout. Again I recommend that you go with the ultralight equipment. This gives you a better feel and a lot more fun in reeling in the fighters.
Start with a Rapala 5S or 3S. Straight tie the lure on with a clinch knot or a Rapala knot. It doesn't matter which as they have both worked for me. Do not use a swivel as it will take away for the action of the lure. A 5S will dive to a depth of 4 to 6 feet. The 3S only has a range of 3 to 5 feet. One trick that you can use if you want to get the lure a little deeper, is to attach a small splitshot no bigger that a BB about 10 feet up your line away from the lure. This will increase your running depth. You don't want anything distracting the fish before he sees the bait.
Set your troll speed to 2 or 3 and let out about 25 to 30 feet of line. Remember line stretch will increase as you let out more line so be ready for this as you start fighting the fish. I personally am the daring type, I've been known to troll with up 100 feet of line out. As a rule my partner and I run 50 to 75 of line.
Now sit back and enjoy the ride and above all else leave the pole alone. Don't be jerking it back and forth as all this will do is disrupt the nature wobble of the lure and scare the fish away.
Good luck and good fishing.
