| smeehan's Full Review: Steelhead |
The problem with steel head is that you need to trek to find them. You can not just go to the local brook and expect to land one. Even when I make the hike to an outback river it is not garrunteed that you will catch one. I hook a steelhead about every three times I go. Despite the fact that they are scarce and tough to hook they are the best fish I have ever fished for. These fish will give you the fight of your life. You need to run along the river, cross the river and leap rocks just to stay up with these sea monsters. It could take anywhere from fifteen minutes to an hour to land these beautiful fish. That is what the sport is all about. There are native and domestic steelhead in the parts that I fish in. The native have a large dorsal bump. If you are lucky enough to catch one of these you should release it. The native steelhead have a better chance of surviving that the stocked steelhead. You will not land a better fish in your life. It is a great experience.
