I don't do a lot of mixing but when I do, I like the convenience of a "hands free" appliance. A few months ago, while on the lookout for a new mixer, I came across the Overstockedkitchen Hand/Stand Mixer by Hamilton Beach. It seemed to meet my qualifications, so I made the purchase. So far, it hasn't let me down, for what I need it for.
Features: Powerful 225 watt motor 6 speeds with QuickBurst button Shift n' Stir bowl Traditional chrome beaters and dough hooks Detachable mixing head doubles as a hand mixer Deluxe 4 qt. glass bowl Bowl Rest mixer stabilizer when used as a hand mixer Easy clean deluxe rounded cord
I think this is a fairly nice-looking mixer. It is mostly white with some grey accents. The 4 qt. bowl is clear glass and quite sturdy, also dishwasher safe on the top rack. The entire weight is about 10 lbs, so it is really easy to move around and stores fairly easy on your countertop or cabinet.
The 225 watt motor works quite well, even on bread dough. I wasn't sure, at first, if this was strong enough for tougher items, but it has proven to be quite effective.
The mixer boasts 6 speeds so that you are able to adjust the speed according to what you are mixing. The quick burst is used similiarly as a pulse button for that extra burst of speed for stubborn clumps. I haven't needed this function, although I did try it out to see how it worked.
The shift & stir feature is essential. You are able to press a side button which raises the mixer up, out of the way, to allow you to scrape down the side of the bowl. I use this every time.
Two sets of beaters come with this mixer - the traditional chrome beaters along with dough hooks. They are really easy to attach and are dishwasher safe.
If you do not want to use the bowl, you can quickly detach the mixer from the stand, although I typically don't do this. The purpose (in my opinion) for having this type of mixer is to allow your hands to be free and let the mixer do the work. But it is a good option, especially when you are mixing up more than the 4 qt. bowl allows. The bowl also has a stabilizer so that you can use it without the stand and still maintain the bowl in one position without it moving around while you are using the mixer.
The round cord makes cleaning it really easy. There are no grooves that collect dirt and grime. It is also a good, average length and can be stored under the base, out of the way.
I purchased this online through an affiliate of Amazon.com. The price was just under $48 plus shipping and handling.
I really like this mixer. I've used Hamilton Beach products before and never had any problems with any of them. They are also quite economical.
Cleaning is easily done with a damp cloth to wipe the unit down. The removeable parts are all dishwasher safe.
