I have visited Lassen Volcanic National Park several times when I was younger. I think my father preferred Lassen to Yosemite because it was less crowded and also near Burney Falls State Park, just a beautiful park in its own right.

Lassen is a camper's paradise. There is great hiking throughout the park. Also, since i love fishing, one should know that Lassen is near Hat Creek and Fall River. Hat Creek is especially great for fly-fishing and for fishing for trout. Once you are up there looking to fish hat Creek though, be careful because some parts of the creek are closed to fishing.
Lassen is a dormant mountain, but still has mud holes and beautiful lakes that were created by the past volcanic explosions. This is a great place to show children about nature and volcanic activity. Also, you can hike Mt. Lassen, which is a workout and a great way to see the surrounding area.
Check out Lassen. It is a great area.
