| rasiel's Full Review: Akaka Falls State Park |
On the Big Island is this gem of a state park offering an easy hike to the waterfalls in a very lush setting. At the closest lookout point you're still a way off so you won't get wet from the waterfall's spray. However, all that lush vegetation isn't there for nothing - it rains almost daily so have a raincoat handy even if it's dry where you park.
There's more to it than just the falls. The trail takes you through huge banyan trees and other tropical scenery including exotic flowers and fauna. I caught glimpses of several colorful birds.
There was no admission fee and it was only a short drive from Hilo.
