I haven't been there in about 4 years, but there were a lot of fish then. I hope this isn't a sign of things to come.
You may find better snorkeling off Maui.
FYI: In Waikiki at the Pacific Beach Hotel is a restaurant called the Oceanarium. It features a 2-3 story fish tank filled with lots of pretty fish and some manta rays. The restaurant has a lot of mirrored walls too, which help to make it even prettier. My husband just loves it and we go every time we are in Hawaii. The food is so-so (lately they have a buffet), but you don't go there for the food.

I'm going to Hawaii at the end of this month and snorkeling in Hanauma Bay is one of the activities I plan on doing. VH indeed. Thanks.

Sorry to hear that you didn't get to see much of anything while snorkeling at this beach. I would have felt let down as well. Especially after spending money for parking, gear, etc.
Sounds like you were a good sport though! :)

I was there on Thursday May 22, 2003. This is a beautiful place, my wife and I also seen it in 1999 and 1988.

Hi Molly,
yeh, your experience of clear water and lots of fish was exactly what I was expecting ... hence my disappointment.
It was a gorgeous beach though and I really enjoyed myself.

...informative and yes I second your high recommendation of Hanauma Bay. I went there about 5 years ago but I will never forget the clear water and how many fish there were!
