| livetoride's Full Review: Round Lake State Park |
Round Lake SP is about 10 miles south of Sandpoint, ID.in the Idaho Panhandle. This State Park is a favorite of local area residents. I have gone to this park over the years in tent, RV, and just day trips. Hiking is easy, scenic & educational. Staff have created Nature trails that show off the work of beavers. If you are lucky you may spot a beaver at work on the dam near the southwest corner of Round Lake. Canoes are ideal here. No motors are allowed on the lake -- so bring your paddle. Inner tubs are popular in the heat of summer. Weekend nights at Round Lake have films, campfire Nature talks, & usually a full campground. Week nights are less busy. Fishing is decent, if you enjoy small fish. Winter time even has action at Round Lake SP. The trails that you enjoy hiking in the summer can also be covered by cross country skis. One other hidden feature of this park, is the access road to the park, Dufort Road, is a "back road" to nearby Priest River, ID. In the fall this road is lit up with bright Fall colors. It is worth a day trip in itself. Fees for the park are set by the state --- $7 per night. Warm, clean showers are available during the summer season.
