| bballer11's Full Review: Acadia National Park |
Acadia National Park is one of the most beautiful parks that I have been to. I went there when I was a kid and all I remember is fun. I remember playing in the ocean on a beach and hiking on beautiful trials. I also remember driving up to Cadillac Mountain and being one of the first people in the U.S. to see the sun rise (there were others their as well).
The park owns over 47,000 acres of land and it is almost all preserved for you to see the wildlife. This park is great, whether you are going for scientific, educational, or just recreational purposes, the rugged coast of Maine will not let you down.
Arcadia National Park offers many reasons for you to travel there:
Educational
The park offers many ranger led tours of the coast in which the guides will stop and tell you about all that Acadia has to offer. Whether its stopping to see a crab or starfish or admiring the landscape, you will not miss a thing with the ranger's guidance. Acadia also offers other educational tour programs as well. The part is also currently offering internships with only 2 positions available in the spring and 2 in the fall.
Have you children become a Junior Ranger! In this program the kids do work in a workbook and learn about how to take care of the land and share it with others. This is a fun way for your children to learn about nature. Children will also receive a patch to show their friends upon completion. Don't have kids? Well you can become a Senior Ranger!
Recreational
Acadia National Park offers many beaches to swim in and trails to hike on. During the summer they are always running carriage rides as well. You can go on a hike with just you and your family or you can go in a ranger-guided group. Through these you will be able to see many more things that the park has to offer. The Rangers know the ins and outs of the park like it was their own back yards. If your not in to hiking you can drive up Cadillac Mountain to see some of the most breath-taking scenery in the U.S. While you there you can also go on a whale-watch. I didn't like this because it was rough conditions and I am prone to motion sickness. Forgot my dramamine. There is also recreational fishing and boating that you could try. If you like the cold you can go to the park in the winter for ideal cross-country skiing and snowshoeing conditions. Acadia National Park is one of the best places to go for recreational fun.
Scientific
Acadia National Park is ideal for your scientific research. With all of the marine life and variety of plant life you can see virtually every species of plant and marine life. Starfish to frogs, whales to sea otters, Arcadia's got it. This park is on the border of more Northern Coniferous forests and the Southern forests. Acadia is a great place for your scientific needs too!
Anything and everything can be done at Acadia. A particular thing that I remember from my visit as a child is the "Penny Candy" store. This store had the cheapest candy I had ever witnessed! Every kids dream!!
The few negatives:
If you get up to see the sun-rise, even in the summer, it is FREEZING. I experienced some bad weather while I was there but I do not believe that this is commonplace for Acadia.
