Pros:So much to do; Very inexpensive; BEAUTIFUL!
Cons:Can't go if it's raining; Sometimes can't get a refund on your tickets if the show cancels

Summer is my favorite season on Long Island. I might whine and moan and complain about the muggy, humid weather, but nothing beats the summer on Long Island. Of course, I love the fall, when the scenery is just magnificent, but there is so much to do during the summer months. After all, we are an island.

One of my favorite places to go during the summer is Jones Beach. There is so much to do there! Of course, Jones Beach is most famous for its concerts. Jones Beach Theater is an outdoor, open-air arena right on the water. I had tickets to take my cousin to see Britney Spears this summer, but didn't get to go. All sorts of events occur there throughout May to October, from theatrical events to major concerts. The parking isn't half bad, though quite expensive (usually $7). It's also easy to drop people off at the box office.

Across Ocean Parkway (where the Jones Beach Theater) is located, you can find the Boardwalk. On the Boardwalk is a plethora of restaurants, including the Boardwalk Restaurant (how original) where my mother and father met. Of course, you will find a great deal of seafood at these restaurants. Should you go to the Boardwalk Restaurant, I highly recommend the fried clams and scallops. It's not too pricey there- About $15 per person for an entire meal, from appetizer to dessert. I try to get there at least once per season.

The Boardwalk comes to life at night. There are all sorts of things to do there. You can often find big group activities, such as square dancing. There are always performers near the railing, as well as card hustlers and such. Don't get me wrong, though. it's a very safe place, as NYPD officers are on foot patrol all over the Boardwalk.

Let's not forget about the "beach" in Jones Beach Park! You're right on the Atlantic Ocean, of course, with the fine sand found only in our area. There are lifeguards to make sure you're safe while you swim. And, if you're worried about sharks, don't be-- there are plenty of steel nets surrounding the shoreline so that none get in. Not only can you swim, but you can also boogie board and surf. Honestly, you'll find better surfing out east, around Montauk.

The best thing about Jones Beach is that it's free. You can spend an entire day and night there just for the cost of food. It's so much fun, and you're never at a lack for something to do.
