| stormypetrel's Full Review: Balmorhea State Park |
I cannot put into words the extreme beauty and wonder of this park. We went on an extensive roadtrip from Georia that snaked through much of the southeast and Texas. This was our favorite spot.
The rooms there are inexpensive and simple, but clean. The pool is great for snorkelling. The grounds are beautiful.
The only problem: when we arrived there, the pool was closed. This followed three days of driving. We weren't happy. We extended our stay so that we could be there for the opening, and were glad we did. The water was warm, the fish plentiful.
Another note: the grocery store in town is very small and doesn't have a lot of stuff. The next nearest store is an hour and a half away. Plan ahead.
This is a lazy trip. There isn't a whole lot to do, but that's the sort of thing we enjoy so we were happy. And there was even a TV - not always common in state parks - that had cable for the slow moments.
