My wife, kids, and I recently traveled to Caprock Canyons State Park, just outside of Quitaque, Texas. We travel to this locale several times in the summer to camp out & enjoy nature at its finest.

On our most recent trip (June 15-17), we were able to take in a Star Party hosted by the camp & the Fort Worth Sidewalk Astronomers Club. Hats off to a brilliant West Texas night with one of the last dark skies in the Lone Star State. Our campsite (#12 Honey Flat) was wonderful as usual (water & electricity). Although the heat can occasionally take its toll, it is no match for our trusty Coachman with central air. For those camping more traditionally (tents) the heat might be a little much.

Critters abound in the park, with up close views of deer, skunks, raccoons, and countless birds. We've visited the park many times and continue to be amazed at its beauty and small crowds. Even when the park is filled to capacity, you hardly know it.

The shoppers will enjoy the neighboring towns of Turkey and Quitaque, which offer a good assortment of clothing (Lacy Dry Goods, Turkey TX) and Collectibles (Karols Country Corner, Quitaque TX).

Traveler Hints: Pack plenty of groceries as food shopping is scarce at best. Prepare for heat in May - August, and pack plenty of drinking water. Pack your bikes as Caprock Canyons is know for its premier mountain biking trails.
