Palo Duro Canyon State Park is a beautiful example of Texas' rich landscape. Located just South of Amarillo in the Texas panhandle, the Palo Duro canyons are a wonderful place to visit and explore.
You can take guided tours or hike the canyons yourself on foot, horseback, or mountainbike.
One of the main attractions in the park is the play "Texas" that is performed at an outdoor open- air theater with the natural canyon as a backdrop. The play has been showing there every summer night (except Sundays) since 1966. The play is great and there are imaginative special effects that make the performance feel authentic. Before every performance a BBQ dinner is served, and the whole event is just a lot of fun - I even enjoyed it as a young, hard to please teenager.
