| badgerdutchman's Full Review: Ray Roberts Lake State Park |
Ray Roberts Lake has two state parks. They are both wonderful places to visit for a day or an overnight camping trip. If you like the woods these parks are ideal. There are many miles of good hiking and mountain bike trails that meander through the woods. The lake offers good fishing opportunities. If you have a boat the parks have good lake access. Otherwise you can fish off the bank. I am an incompetent fisherman, but I usually manage to catch one at Ray Roberts. The facilities are more than adequate, and the campsites are terrific. You will enjoy observing the wildlife. Birds are especially abundant. Watch the shoreline and you might see a heron or an egret. If you like sunsets, go to the Isle du Bois branch. From there you will be able to look west across the body of the lake and watch the sun sink below the horizon. The colors and clouds and water can be quite inspiring. You will have the opportunity for star gazing on a clear night. Ray Roberts Lake is quick and easy to get to from Dallas-Ft. Worth. If you live in the city and want to get away for a short trip without having to drive a long distance then Lake Ray Roberts is an excellent choice.
