| joey8301's Full Review: Grand Teton National Park |
I visited Grand Teton NP during my first ever drive out west. We went there after our 5 day stay in yellowstone.
The only thing we really did in grand teton national park was a backpack and a little scenic driving (not much driving). we did an about 25 mile loop or so which we started that day and hiked like 3 miles then the rest was only one night. We went to the ranger station and they were very helpeful in helping us pick out a great loop that was still available. He told us we would love this hike and we did. I have backpacked and hiked all around the country in many areas in the east and west and the loop that this ranger helped us pick out remains my favorite backpack i have ever been on.
The loop started and hiked to phelps lake which we stayed the first evening after 3 miles or so then the next day involved hiking through death canyon which was amazing and had tons of wildflowers in augost. This lead us to the death canyon shelf and then eventually to the Alaska basin which is where we spent the second night. We had the alaska basin to ourselves. There was no one in sight and we set up the tent right below buck mountain. The next day involved hiking to the top of static peak which is about 11,300 feet in elevation and then eventually hiking back out through death canyon again and back to our car.
This backpack was great and we really had quite a bit of solitude especially when we were on the shelf and and in the alaska basin. On the way back down through death canyon we ran into our fair share of people once we were closer to the road and it was the right time of day for them to be hiking through but it was still worth it.
Like i said this backpack was absolutly amazing and to this day remains my favorite short packs i have ever been on. I will get to this park again in my lifetime and when i do i may take advantage of some dayhikes that i did not get to do along with hopefully anouther backpack in the area. But the tetons are definatally on my list of places to go again in my life. The mountains are absolutly amazing. The best way to describe them is they are mountains that you dream about when you are a kid in terms of the perfect shape with the right amount of snow cover.
