Getting There:
Both trips I have taken here I ended up flying into Salt Lake City, UT and renting a car. First I took a trip north and then East (through Idaho) and the second time I traveled East and then North through the Star Valley. The Idaho route seemed to be a lot better, and faster. It also looks to be much more dependable in winter.
The Town:
Jackson, WY is a tourist town south of the park. There are plenty of lodgings available in town which is very close to the park. These are considerably cheaper than actually staying in the park, which is what I did. There are also plenty of outfitters in town, if you forgot any of your hiking, fishing, climbing, etc gear.
The Park:
Grand Teton National Park requires an entry fee, as do most National Parks. I would recommend getting a National Parks Pass, as it will usually pay for itself in 3 or so visits to any National Site and it good for an entire calendar year. The park has many campsites available, and even a few lodges. I chose to stay at the lodge in a small cabin. The facilities were nice, albeit expensive. The bed was comfortable, but the room was without many amenities, such as TV. I was there to hike, so I wasnt interested in this anyway. The main lodge building featured a huge great room with a massive three story tall window facing the Teton Range. There were moose easily visible in the field off the back balcony daily. The great room also had many comfortable easy chairs to relax in after a long day of activities. I would definitely recommend staying in the lodge in the park if you can afford to.
Activities
In my opinion, this is the best time I have ever had hiking. All of the hikes through Cascade Canyon (near Jenny Lake) are amazing, and the hike to Lake Solitude, although long and snow covered, was well worth the effort. There are also numerous technical climbs open year round in the mountains, as well as many ranches (especially in the North end of the park) where you can do some trail riding. If you are a little less adventurous, this park makes for an amazing motor tour, especially coupled with Yellowstone National Park, mere minutes to the North.
