If you are looking for that awe-inspiring or breathtaking place for vacation, I highly recommend a trip to Grand Teton National Park in northwestern Wyoming. The only prerequisite for a visit here is to bring plenty of film, appropriate clothing, and be a lover of nature. There are plenty of lodges, cabins, campgrounds, recreation vehicle parks, dude ranches, motels, etc. to stay in to meet every traveler's budget.
Grand Teton National Park was dedicated in 1929, and the entire area of Grant Teton has grown to almost 500 square miles. John D. Rockefeller, Jr. gifted over ten percent of the park to the National Park Service. The Tetons are an example of fault-block mountain formations. The exposed crystalline rocks give these mountains their dramatic appearance in early morning or late evening, summer, winter, or fall!
Some of the magnificent scenery to experience is Jackson Lake, which is over 16 miles long with a shoreline of approximately 81 miles. The awesome mountains rise over 7,000 feet above the lake and make for many dramatic Kodak moments. We stopped our car several times on the drive along Moose-Wilson Road to take pictures of moose and wonderful scenery.
If you are into churches and cathedrals, stop by the little log Chapel of the Transfiguration. I highly recommend you take a photo through the large window above the altar of the teton range. It makes for a dramatic blowup on your wall.
The Bill Menor Cabin and Ferry were very educational. An interesting turn of the century collection of furniture and personal belongings of early settlers is housed here.
By the southern border of Grand Teton National Park, the 25,000 acre National Elk Refuge is the winter home to over 7,000 elk every year. When the snow comes in November, the elk begin their annual migration to the lower elevation in this valley in search of food. If you are here in the winter, I recommend you take a horse-drawn sleigh ride for a close-up look at the elks.
If you have experienced Grand Teton through your friends' photos or videos of this magnificent place, you have been fortunate, but the only way to really discover Grand Teton is close up and personal. Enjoy one of the most magnificent wonders of the world.
