| CoachB's Full Review: Yellowstone National Park |
Last summer we took my mother-in-laws RV and set out with our two older kids (ages 7 & 4) to Yellowstone National Park. We left our 18 month old with grandma. That was one of the smartest moves we could have made. Taking the RV was the best way to go with small children.
We went over the 4th of July. The weather was hot during the day, you needed shorts but very cool at night. We wore our winter pajamas and used the heater.
We spent a total of 4 days in Yellowstone. I'm not a real outdoorsy type so 4 days was just right. We did a lot of hiking. We didn't have any luck fishing.
It was neat to see the geysers but they did stink and the kids hated the smell. They said they smelled like rotten eggs.
The mudpots were cool as well.
There's not much shopping available. They had general stores that were all run by the same company. Of course, everything was more expensive than what you're used to.
Other than hiking and fishing, there wasn't a lot to do for the kids.
The roads were narrow and some were in need of repair. We did get caught in construction one afternoon for about an hour, which was a bummer.
We did see deer, lots of bison, and elk. Supposedly we were close to a moose and it's baby but we could never see it. We saw a bear cub sleeping on the side of a mountain. It's amazing what kind of a traffic jam these animals can create.
We were amazed to see all the fire damage. I can't believe they haven't cleared some of it out.
There was some terrific scenery on our hikes. There was this beautiful waterfall on the side of a mountain that was breathtaking.
We ate lunch at Yellowstone Inn. It wasn't that expensive for lunch. I think our hamburgers were $7. It's a neat place. Our neighbors suggested it to us. My husband wasn't very excited about eating there but humored me. When we got inside, he was taken by the decor and construction. I would highly recommend seeing Yellowstone Inn.
We haven't visited any other National Parks so I don't have anything to compare it to.
The kids are ready to go back. Someday, when our baby is older.
